Help Needed- Knight Ultra-Lite 209 PrimernIssue

I quit shimming my breech plugs on my knight. Pulled the shims out, polished the primer pocket and now I just use the heat resistant O rings. zero blowback and my primers come out.

Care to expand on this? size of O ring and type, etc. would like to give this a try

I buy them thru McMaster-Carr. They don't last too long but they are cheap. They do stop the blowback.

Didn't there used to be upgraded aftermarket breech plug options? Hankins? I wouldn't be willing to deal with these stupid issues. Seems odd for Knight to send cease and desist to aftermarket companies providing products that would make their rifles an actually viable option to some customers.

It was a marketing ordeal. I think it was Lehigh that had the bare primer conversion with an attachment to the existing FPJ bolt to replace the disk. The Lehigh bolt attachment paired to a proprietary breech plug. Knight wanted to offer a bare primer option to their newer models. At first, Knight had been offering a bare primer conversion kit for their older models. I bought a Knight DISC Elite with the “Western” option. I bought a conversion kit to change over to 209 primers to shoot Buckhorn powder.

Unfortunately the breech plug primer pocket is sloppy and can wedge a primer base into the firing pin hole in the bolt-face making removal of a spent primer difficult to the point that the primer may need to be drilled out of the bolt face. Unfortunately Knight apparently uses the same sloppy breech plugs in their new rifles. Shimming the breech plug has been an accepted way to get the correct primer pocket length dimensions or has it?

Once you install the .248 shims that is 1 & done as it would be difficult to remove them after. Also not all 209 Primers are the same in size so what happens if you can find the one you set up your ML for and use another and you have issues including blow back. Just what I learned. I went with a better but some money and had my Disc Rifle ungraded by a gunsmith that does it and does it so there is no need for "shims" just need the Bare Primer Adapter that Knight stopped with a "cease & desist" order leaving loyal customers in a bind. But it seems to be all about the dollar than helping customers. Even some learn there is no easy way to get in touch with Knight Rifle these days they do not offer a Phone Number to call just and emails and you get an auto reply stating it is a busy time (all year long) and might take a few days to get a reply yet when you send a couple with questions and parts availability and you get one of maybe 3 answered they do not seem to be customer friendly at least not how the original Knight Rifles WAS. It cost me about $300.00 for a 1 time upgrade of a custom breech plug and modification to eliminate the primer getting stuck in the Bolt Face. including Shipping and uses a Tungsten Carbide Bushing no "vent liner: (which only offers maybe 100 to 120 shots before the vent will need to be replace) the bushing system offers 1K shots before a new bushing is needed. So I went with these upgrades. I like to make it easy so 1 and done and doubt I wiil ever shoot 1000 times maybe 500 once I get my powder load figured out and do a lot of Deer Hunting.
As for the O-Ring they do not last long and why some came up with the shim idea.

Strongly considering putting the western conversion back in the knight and shooting T7 with caps. I put a buckhorn breech plug in the Optima. I will probably go with conicals on the .52 and hunt Colorado. NM residents are now only getting 25% of all of the available big game tags. Muzzle-loader seasons bring the odds up a tad for residents, however the number of available tags for residents is about as low as whale dung in the Marianna Trench. Really doesn’t make much of a difference.
