My 270 is lethal. And, if you need ammo anywhere, you can find some.
Hard to find one with youth stock, even if kids can stand the recoilMy 270 is lethal. And, if you need ammo anywhere, you can find some.
My dad has a 7-08 shooting factory 139gr interlocks. It’s a hammer on whitetail and it broke a shoulder in half on mature mule deer buck. I’ve always been impressed with it. That’s why i was leaning toward it, but there’s just so many more options with the 6.5 cmI’m a major -08 homer but this argument is irrefutable.
6.5 Creed.
I’m a .270win voter, ammunition is a no brainer , and cheap, 130, 140, 150 grain ammo, I shoot a Winchester m70 featherweight, but a savage 110 apex has a component stock that can be made kid or adult friendly and my buddies wife’s favorite rifle shoots lights out with 140gr Sierra game changerGosh, a 140 gr bullet in any of these three calibers all work great: 7mm-08, 270 win, or 260 Rem/6.5 creed.
For kiddos reduced loads with lighter bullets can help start them out with low recoil and work up as they get more used to recoil.
The 270 will have more recoil than the other two, and be almost identical in recoil and ballistics to 6.5 PRC (out to 500 yards anyway). I wouldn’t want to push it on a kid, but if they aren’t bothered by recoil there’s no reason it’s not a great step up from 243. A million kids have graduated from 243 to 270.
Sounds like fun and there are no bad choices.
The featherweight has to be one of the nicest looking rifles ever made.I’m a .270win voter, ammunition is a no brainer , and cheap, 130, 140, 150 grain ammo, I shoot a Winchester m70 featherweight, but a savage 110 apex has a component stock that can be made kid or adult friendly and my buddies wife’s favorite rifle shoots lights out with 140gr Sierra game changer
I forgot about the Apex and I've bought 2 for a lady and a kid. 6.5 creed and 243. Shiddd...120 gr 7mm-08 NBT for the win.
I find it easily online. If he can loaf on the internet, he can find ammo also.Factory 120 BT ammo is tough to find and he doesn’t handload.

I love the 120 gr NBT performance and I can feel the recoil is a little less than the 139/140 gr rounds.Nothing he shoots inside of 300 yards is gonna know the difference.

I have four 6.5 Creeds. Three rigged up pretty nice. They seem to stay hid unless a lady or kid is hunting with me. Change is hardThe 120 BT is an angry little bullet indeed, but the 6.5 CM is the easy button.
And my primary shootin’ iron is a 7mm-08. And my backup to my primary is another 7mm-08.

If you don't want to go with a .223 get a 6 ARC. My 10 year old son killed his first deer with one this season. He's able to shoot it a lot to practice and not get discouraged because of the recoil.
I'm not to familiar with how a .243 shoots personally.
But there is very little recoil. Factory ammo is pretty accurate and every store I go into has it on the shelf for less than $30 a box. Plus you get the benefits of heavy for caliber in factory offerings.
