Has the Ruger American Gen 2 been out long enough to be considered “proven”?

Thanks for chiming in I believe nearly all bolt rifles really behave this way now that you mention

If your bolt is even slightly open, the firing pin's cocking piece will force the bolt down as it travels forward, losing a ton of energy in the process.
Now that you mention that, I think I'm wrong because I remember thinking my RAP was a "cock on open" because they're hard to judge bolt lift or sticky at the top of extraction because they click naturally when cocking. Maybe it works the same on both designs?

Please excuse my ignorance, my ECM board for my HVAC fan motor went tits up and it's currently 80° ambient in my living room so I'm trying to occupy my mind while sitting here sweating..

That click is just a notch on the cocking ramp. If you are above that notch (bolt is fully open), the firing pin will not fall

If below that notch, most firing pins will fall, but in falling they must force themselves down the rest of the ramp (closing the bolt) before they can travel fully forward

I say "most" since maybe some model rifle out there wont do this, but Im not aware of one.

Anyway, if I understand Mallard's story correctly, I don't think what happened is a design flaw unique to the RA

I wouldn't want it in a 308 but the 7mm-08 is pretty good for my daughter.... With the muzzle brake, recoil is minimal but its very loud obviously. She isnt afraid of it with 140 grain accubonds for her upcoming elk hunt.

Got the RA gen 2 .223 bedded last night.

took it out to zero and test a few cheap ammo options, and two of five shot good enough I may never try to reload for it

Other three grouped awful, but including for anyone reading through. It handled the two 556 ammos no problem.

Did not show pressure with any of these. Velocities in pictures. Shots were 100yds prone, bipod, bag, with a TBAC ultra 7

So far would definitely recommend these in the <$550 range if you don't hate a swept grip (or a little DIY work)
If I could get a stainless Tikka for a $100 more, I'd take that option to avoid the need for stock work. But happy with mine, especially for a beater 223

Just throwing this out there.
Wolf shouldn’t be considered when looking for accuracy. Just from my limited experience.
you’ve got 223/556 and a pretty good spread of grains. Were any of them consistent?

Do the 223s feed reliably? I have a Rem700 that feeds 90% from AI pattern mags. I love it for varmints and flat range shooting but I’m debating a RA Gen 2 that uses AR mags for a field gun.
