Our local has probably been hit like 5 or 6 times. But we are 20 miles from Mexico.

2 of the guys are Ex-Mil do 4 and get out types. The owner is a woman and she doesn't set foot in that place.

It is 600 yards from a Sportsmans Warehouse.

There are other gun shops in Las Cruces, and they all act like the next person to walk through the door is going to wreck the place.

Usually just order something from Buds or Euro Optis and send it to the military gun shop on base. Not worth the drama.

Als gives everyone a discount. The owner of Als is a complete and utter asswipe. I only shop there if I absolutely have to.

Sportsmans will be Cabelas in the next five years. Just rebuilding and looking to sell.

I work "in the industry" and avoid the "gun culture" like the plague. I am all for 2nd A and think the restrictions on firearms are overboard but while I know a lot of guys that collect guns and are very knowledgeable I can not stand the range warriors and guys that get off on the stupidity of some of the industry.

I've been asked multiple times to go to SHOT SHOW for work and absolutely refuse. Even dealing with former military guys day to day in my job it is funny how no one was a cook...everyone was a door kicker apparently.

It's a well-known phenomenon if you ever spent time in bars off base, overhearing young PFC's spitting game to their future dependants.

On a serious note: Depending on the unit and time of deployment, it's very possible that non-combat arms soldiers got into the fight. In the first year of the Iraq war, it was pretty common for cooks, mechanics, commo, S2 and S4 dorks, etc., to spend time manning check points, doing supply runs while providing their own security, or gate and tower guard duty. My unit even had volunteer night patrols where it didn't matter what your MOS was as long as you were willing to fight.

To my knowledge though, I've never heard of any support troops being included in raids. Pulling security outside? Sure, but definitely not kicking doors.

I served in an infantry battalion in the Marine Corps and when I got out, I wanted nothing to do with firearms, shooting, hunting,or camping for some years afterward. It was quite a few years before I had any desire to go back to the outdoor lifestyle. With my discharge, I could not imagine putting on body armor or picking up a rifle or pistol with even a very remote possibility of using it against another human.

so when I seen the gun store warriors, I have to question if they are serious people or a man child living out a fantasy.

I get that but a lot of these guys are even older guys not in during that time when really nothing was going on. But yeah not talking about the general contact type stuff ... just seems the military has a lot more Snipers than I expected and everyone is jumping under NODs into firefights.

If I worked at a gun store in a rougher part of town or was the only person there, I'd probably consider wearing a soft, low key, IIIA vest.

I worked private security for awhile and the local pd let me borrow one of their vests after an incident with a couple armed tweakers. They offered it without me even asking because I was alone, patrolling on foot 10-12 hours a night, in a bad part of the city. Thought that was pretty cool of them.

Anyways, other than sweating under the vest, it was very comfortable and even helped my posture a bit, Hahaha.

I would never want to wear a plate carrier again after the military though. Not for a job and definitely not for fun. It's excessive unless you know for certain that shit could jump off.

I worked during the 2020 riots and we aren’t far from a town that was having issues. I walked into work and a kid asked me “if a mob comes, what gun you grabbing to defend the place?” I told him “I am grabbing my ass and running out the back door.” That is the people that I don’t understand. I call them “wish a mother ****** woulds.”Spend their life wish somebody would do something so they can use a gun. I carry everyday and hope to never have to bring that thing out of the holster.

My thoughts exactly! No cover to hide behind, the stuff is insured, at least wait until you have an advantage of some sort in a fight with multiple bad guys.
