Grizzly electric fence?

Yes. It uses two AA batteries. My grounding rod is overkill, but a good ground is critical. I think it's 1/2" aluminum round stock. I use carbon arrows for fence poles (w/ take-down inserts so I can make them shorter for packing).

My setup is very similar. Only used it once in 2022 when I hunted near the park. Helped me sleep soundly.

I’ve not used the bear watch system but have researched systems and that looks like a real solid option. I’m assembling my own and it will probably come in about the same price and weight as their system.

My hunting associate is terrified of bears. He bought a fence so he could sleep at night. It works, when he remembers to bring it.

@darcytribe Did you by chance get to assembling your own bear fence yet, as well as an approximate cost in comparison to the other bear watch systems one mentioned?

I did a rough estimate, and as I started to price out carbon poles, insulators, the energizer etc, it seemed I was going to get close in costs, but also a heavier system. I was looking at using the s12 gallagher since it was solar. The bear watch sys requires 8 AA, which I thought was a lot of batteries to be managing in the backcountry.

The SureGuard controller I mentioned in post #14 takes 2 AA batteries and last for days on those.

I did make it and it works well. I used the sureguard controller mentioned above. I think I’m in it for just about the same money. I haven’t weighed my system yet but it’s not bad at all.

My hunting partners and I use the Bearwatch Systems Fence . It works great, and I seem to sleep a lot better in high density G Bear areas. It does add a bit of extra weight that can split up between a few packs and is barely noticeable. One area in particular usually has a sow and cubs roaming nearby. They show up on our trail cameras but have yet to disturb our camp surrounded by the fence.

Two recommendations:
1. Buy the USB to 12v accessory cord so that you can use a battery bank style phone charger as a power source. Multifunctional that way.
2. Only fence failure was on a morning with heavy frost. Some tall grass that had previously not been touching the fence came into contact with the lines and we lost a bunch of battery capacity before it was discovered.
