Yes. It uses two AA batteries. My grounding rod is overkill, but a good ground is critical. I think it's 1/2" aluminum round stock. I use carbon arrows for fence poles (w/ take-down inserts so I can make them shorter for packing).

My setup is very similar. Only used it once in 2022 when I hunted near the park. Helped me sleep soundly.

I’ve not used the bear watch system but have researched systems and that looks like a real solid option. I’m assembling my own and it will probably come in about the same price and weight as their system.

@darcytribe Did you by chance get to assembling your own bear fence yet, as well as an approximate cost in comparison to the other bear watch systems one mentioned?

I did a rough estimate, and as I started to price out carbon poles, insulators, the energizer etc, it seemed I was going to get close in costs, but also a heavier system. I was looking at using the s12 gallagher since it was solar. The bear watch sys requires 8 AA, which I thought was a lot of batteries to be managing in the backcountry.

The SureGuard controller I mentioned in post #14 takes 2 AA batteries and last for days on those.

I did make it and it works well. I used the sureguard controller mentioned above. I think I’m in it for just about the same money. I haven’t weighed my system yet but it’s not bad at all.

Where did you guys buy the Sureguard, any place cheaper in the USA? I see it on an Australia website and Eagle Safety for $239. Dang thats expensive!

I got it cheaper buying direct from suregaurd in AU. I think shipping was only $15 bucks.
