Grizzly-1, Hiker-0

Check out the comments by Tim Sundles (I think) on the Buffalo Bore website regarding how he
feels about Bears. He pretty much nails it IMO.

fell for the family thats awful. Im sure most of you know B.C banned the grizz hunt a few years ago and ever since there has been a increase in charges and hunters having to dispatch grizzly bears in my area, i had to put one down myself. So i dont think @BuzzH can say right away that hunting them and not hunting them will make them more or less ballsy towards humans. I seen 5 grizzles in less than 24 hours and 2 different draws, we got no shortage of them

libs are way too dominant in policies today....but to turn that tide will be very difficult and some feeling will be hurt(at the very least).

How does a bear that's killed by a hunter inform other bears it should be cautious or fearful around humans?

The only bear you put fear into is the dead one lying at your feet. And he ain't talking anymore.

how do deer become scarce during gun season??? Do they communicate that gun season is open to other deer?
Oh...I don't know, but my guess is hundreds of thousands of deer tags may have something to do with it.

Possibly because deer have eyes on the side of their head and a prey species could be another.

That's in stark contrast to an apex predator with forward facing eyeballs, and having a handful (eventually) of licensed hunters hunting them will not make them fearful of hunters.

Deer and grizzlies are not wired the same, evolution has assured that.

Seems intuitively obvious even to the most casual observer.

Oh and deer are not scarce during hunting season...at least for those that savvy how to hunt.

Ymmv.

So grizz hunts would result in 100% success rates, no misses, no wound loss, no grizz getting the feeling they are being hunted like black bears know for sure. Got it!

As far as hunting them, it wouldn't take long for them to figure out what's up, try to avoid humans.
Let me add that as the grizz population increases there is greater competition
for resources, food, territory, etc.... leading to more of them being "on edge"
and/or more aggressive - ready to flip that switch.
IMO,,,,,I am not a Bear Biologist.

This is why you bring deadly force with you in big predator country...
While I mostly agree, it’s easy for people (especially ones that don’t live here) to think it would have been a different outcome if he was carrying. There’s simply not enough time to react during most of these attacks. This is coming from somebody that has carried spray, a 44, and an air horn on many shed hunting trips. I recognize that this could have easily happened to me as I’ve shed hunted the same area for over 20 years. It’s as dangerous now as it’s ever been. All we can do is try to learn from it. I feel awful for the wife and kids. Sad deal all around

If I had the tag there would be no wounding loss, no missing and it's 100 percent sure a grizzly would be dead.

Keep reading, I said more later on relative to how most would likely react, and maybe even BuzzH will like that post too.

Nice deflection Buzz. @Pacific_Fork is correct. Bears in huntable areas will be more like to associate humans with danger if they're hunted.

Not dumb just contrary to what you like. If they want em on the endangered species list, make sure they are endangered.

Otherwise the grizzlies provide absolutely nothing the wolves don't already cover - except for killing guys with a gaggle of children when they get press. That guide with the helpless client - he had like 4 kids too.
Helpless client? You mean the hapless idiot from Florida who is the one hunter on the planet that can't shoot a Glock and ran off and abandoned the guide? That fool? Hell, he flew back to Florida before they had even retrieved the guide's body. I hope he never leaves the state of Florida again. Ever.
