Grandpa's Model 700 Wood Stock Refinishing Help

After putting it through the ringer and killing a moose, 2 bear, and a whitetail, I'm cleaning up my grandpa's 1964 7mm Remington Model 700.

My question is how the hell do I work around the black fore-end cap and the black at the bottom of the pistol grip? The buttpad I believe is glued on since there's no screws, visible or hidden that I can find, so I'll take a heat gun to it and try to get it off. Any advice is much appreciated
