Funny that the InReach was mentioned as a spouse "reassurance device." Mine had the same feelings until I bought one. Hey, if if keeps her at ease so I can get out, it is 250 bucks welllll spent.

Lol. Striper fishing ruined my trout fishing. I like fishing creeks for trout but I use bigger fish for striper bait in the spring.

Solo also. Driving from Indiana. Which it’s not bad, except Kansas. Haha driving through Kansas sucks. Inreach was a huge deal for my wife. I had it set to send out tracking points every two hours so she could see what I was doing somewhat without me having to text non stop. I’d suggest getting it out ahead of time and really getting yourself AND HER familiar with it and those feature. I have a link saved where she can pull it up and look at me and see exactly what im doing. I capitalized her before because getting her very comfortable with it so it’s easy for her makes it much better.

47, fortunate to live in CO. I carry inreach mini on all hikes, mtn bike trips, and backcountry excursions. I don’t do it for my wife. I do it for me, I want to make it home to my wife and daughters. Even on the front range you can get in trouble.

What he said. I quit my deer lease after my first year elk hunting. I still hunt turkeys in the spring, but the fall belongs to elk hunting

My wife actually likes that I get it all out of my system (sort of) in September-October. I think about elk and train for them the other 10 months.

I do the solo thing a lot . Make a local friend in Colorado or make sure you have the number to the local game warden where you are hunting . Just in case you get lost or hurt. Sat phones are cheap if you rent them for just emergencies. You can find rentals for 2 weeks for around $100. Another thing I do is get a hold of a local guide in that area . So worth it if you shoot something . A lot of them will pack out your elk for a reasonable fee. I also live on the east coast and have been doing the west hunts for a while now . I love it . I'm sorry about your dad . I believe he will still be out there with you. My second trip out I lost my best friend to cancer . He always wanted to go out there ,but never could . I took one of his arrows with me and put it on the highest peak I climbed . So in my eyes part of him made it there.

I cannot wait. This is gonna be at the realization of a long time of dreaming. My dad died back in 2011 from cancer and he had always wanted to do a trip like this but life gets in the way of everything it seem and we never got to go together. So for me it’s as much a time to do something we had always talked about since I was a little kid. Of course my wife thinks I’m crazy and my brother is afraid I’ll quit hunting whitetails and doing food plotting on our property because I’ll get elk fever every year. But I can’t stop thinking about it. In some way it’s almost a relief I’m going alone. Not because having a partner is some limitation but I usually hunt alone anyway. And the idea of being solo has something else that’s hard to describe.

You brother is probably right, but maybe you can drag him along next year.

I hunt alone every year in CO that my hunting partner doesn't come up from AZ which includes this year. Hard to find another hunting partner! Being lonely can suck when you are hunting hard and want to gripe to someone! Everytime I come home though im wishing i was still hunting! The new hardest part is missing my kiddos! Cant wait until they can hunt!

Yeah, your WT hunting is about to get ruined. I only do it now to fill in some gaps and give me some practice with the bow, but my heart is no longer in it.
