Gloves... Lets talk gloves

So I treestand hunt whitetails mainly, but love to get the chance to scale the mountains when the opportunity arises. However, I am looking for some decent stand hunting gloves/mittens. I have a Sitka 40% off code, so looking at the incinerator flip mitts or holding out for Black Ovis puffy glassing mitts. Im tired of having cold hands. Ive used handwarmers and handmuff for years, but when that hand it outside on the gun or bow waiting to pull the trigger, it can be brutal. Any advise?

Honestly, I’ve not found anything better than a thin glove with good dexterity, plus a hand muff and body warmers as needed. On the stand my hands don’t stay out long enough to be a problem for a thin glove and you can’t beat a muff with a hot hands body warmer inside to roll around in your hands. The only time my muff doesn’t go with me to the stand is when I take my Fanatic jacket, which has a built in muff, but I don’t hunt much in mild temps anymore.

The last few years I’ve been using a thin fleece glove I picked up in Iceland a couple years ago. But I bought a pair of Sitka merino gloves to try this year.

I agree with this and I have more gloves/mittens than I could use in 10 lifetimes. A muff, a Hot Hands 18 hour body warmer in it and Fanatic gloves. Add a pair off cheap jersey gloves to use when it’s wet to climb up and down your stand.

I use pretty thin cabelas gloves rubber dot grips with a muff as well. I prefer the feel to shoot. I have tried my Kuiu down mitts, choppers, etc. Too much movement, noise, and/or hassle to get a shot off.

I have the fanatic gloves. I tried this last year in with my fanatic jacket. Had hand warmers in the muff pocket but the wind was brutal and my hands still got cold. Like painful cold. But I do love those fanatic gloves. I need to feel my bow/rifle/binos/rangefinder/etc.

Another thing I have done over the thin gloves is fingerless merino gloves. Depending on wind or temp it’s tough all around to stay warm in a tree stand. Some days I have 4 layers of wool. Base, mid, jacket, over jacket and still can get cold. With layers anything is doable except your hands as you need to feel. Someday a paper thin heated glove will come out. Until then they freeze when it’s time to shoot for me.

For treestand hunting, I almost exclusively wear Blackovis Tuscarora Merino Liner gloves with the Blackovis San Juan Merino Fingerless over the top.
