For anyone who may be looking for good, all purpose, budget friendly camo pattern for whitetail in most environments.

I came across an article on Archeryhunting.com titled "Best Camo for Deer Hunting: What the Science Says" and curiously gave it a read. Using a "deer vision" preset on the Adobe Lighroom app, 30 camos were compared. I'll attach the link if yall are interested in giving it a read, but I want to focus on something I found interesting. You can also go to camomatrix.com and compare a bunch of different camos in different environments/seasons as seen from deer vision if you'd like.

The top 5 of their list are:
#1. Sitka - Elevated II
#2. Asio - Raptor
#3. First Lite - Specter
#4. Huntworth - Disruption
#5. TrueTimber - Strata

Now I can recognize how well these all work, but when it comes to hunting, I personally feel like theres more important things to spends heaps of cash on instead of camo. BUT, I bow hunt with a cross bow and like to still hunt so figured something that works well would be beneficial when walking through the woods instead of just sitting in a tree stand. So I checked out #s 2-4 (knowing Sitka was incredibly too expensive for my pockets) and settled on Strata (Cabelas/Bass Pro had their pre season sale going on and Redhead clothing in the Strata pattern were included).

The more and more I looked at the pattern, the more I couldn't help but feel like it looked nearly identical to what I had bought last year for my wife (her first time bow hunting). We had went to Walmart to get her the bare necessities and I ended up getting her some Tekari clothing in the XRC pattern. Now I already knew TrueTimber makes Tekari, but I never put 2 and 2 together.
I went ahead and ordered a pair of Redhead pants for and gloves just to see just how similar Strata and XRC really are. Needless to say, they are damn near identical. The only real difference i can see is that the green in XRC is a few shades brighter than the green in Strata. It was hard to compare with the pants because of the difference in material between them and my wife's Tekari quarter zip, but the Redhead gloves are the same material and you nearly cant tell the difference. Ive added some pictures so yall can see for yourself. Im wearing the Strata pattern pants and gloves and XRC pattern quarterzip and hat. As you can see, not sure if its lighting, or my phone camera, but even the Strata gloves seem completely different than the Strata pants due to material. But to the naked eye, the difference isn't nearly as noticeable. I will have to utilize camomatrix.com to verify that the difference in material doesn't damper Strata's performance.

So with that being said, if you want a science backed top 5 camo for Whitetail on early the cheapest budget possible, stop by Walmart and pick up some Tekari XRC clothing and give it a whirl.

I will also be putting up some pictures on camomatrix.com of the XRC camo at work in the environments I hunt for early, mid, and late season from the ground and tree stands.
