So I'm having a hard time with my glasses while hunting.... Those of you who wear glasses or contacts what your preference. Biggest concerns are while using optics.

1 it's not comfortable looking through glasses and Binos, and 2 they get dirty

2 carrying contact solution is really a pain

3 with my astigmatism I can't get contacts that are as clear/sharp as my glasses

Any suggestions or experiences?

I hunt both back country and Midwest stand hunting .rifle, shotgun, and archery

Glasses are so much easier to put on in the dark and cold morning in my tent for me. I carry a cheap spare set too. I used to do contacts but got tired of having to worry about hygiene and packing a small mirror.

I wear contacts and bring my glasses as a back up in case I lose one(I also have an extra pair of contacts as well). For me I do not need a mirror to put contacts in and don't have to worry about glasses fogging up while hiking or sweat running down them, its hot in California while deer hunting.

I’m in the same boat with Astigmatism, so I have the weighted contacts. Every time I look down or turn my head they would roll and everything would get blurry. I tried for like 6 months to get them to work.

I prefer a smaller pair of glasses so the lense is pretty close to you eye and your not having to push against the binos.

Glasses for me. Had a contact dry out on a hot, dusty jeep ride once and ball up in the corner of my eye. Stayed there until the next day. No fun

My eyes tend to dry out really bad glassing long periods with contacts. That and I don’t ever feel my vision is quite as good with contacts.

If your eyes don’t dry out contacts are handier, just doesn’t work great for me.

contacts for me, hated glasses when I started hunting, had to remove them to use binos back then and the rain was a pain. I have astigmatism too and wear weighted lenses but distance vision is fine, reading the phone etc not so good. So 95% of hunting is fine with contacts. Putting in and taking it while camping and backpacking can be a little hassle but not terribly bad. Keep them in sleeping bag with you do they stay warm. A16oz bottle of solution should be enough for at least a week.

contacts in my small kifaru pullout with extra pair and solution with my other toiletries, been wearing contacts for so long that its a normal morning routine to put em in. couple things though is make sure your hands are clean before you put them in, i ususally keep a full nalgen in the morning to wash my hands with a small thing of antibacterial soap, dont want any nasty eye infections

Guys/gals, get lasik and be done with glasses and contacts. If you are above age 40-45, then a lens replacement with a multi focal lens will have you seeing things from distance to reading zone quite easily and you won’t have to worry about fosses or contacts again.

This is what I do, it is a safe surgery to have with today’s technology and there are lots of options out there for everyone, including those with astigmatism.

Money is a factor, but you are gonna spend that same money over your life on glasses or contacts anyway, so get rid of the hassle and come see me in sunny Dallas Fort Worth and we can hook you up with a vision improving surgery.

I know some folks around the country doh g this stuff as well, and will answer any questions you have, so feel free to ask away about your local doc or eye stuff in general

I would love to, looked into it years ago. They won’t touch me with keratoconis.

There’s options now for keratoconus called corneal cross linking. Some docs will do cross linking and follow that up with prk to get rid of the glasses. If you are in/near a major metro area anywhere across the country you could find someone that would do that.

I would love to get lasik, but my prescription is changing every year and my DR says it won’t last long enough to be worth it. I would have to have surgery again in a few years

Glasses.Contacts suck.Glassing with good glass no issue at all for me and my eyes are protected somewhat.

Edit to add:This 'protection' thing should be considered.Even if using contacts or even if you don't need glasses,I'd consider wearing protective ones at times. For instance, heading up or down in the dark.Recently read somewhere there are more than a million eye injuries in the US annually. Most on the job of course but the articles thrust or emphasis was that 90% or more could have been avoided. A hassle?Yes but.......

I've never had a problem with contacts over glasses...until Wyoming this year. The wind dried my eyes out way faster than I expected. I had to toss that pair and wear glasses the second day of hunting. One thing that may have helped would have been daily contacts, but I don't think it would've helped much the first day. I'm now looking at getting a better pair of glasses to wear as a backup.
