Spent a month chasing sheep in the Sangres, ending with a 5-mile 2500' packout down with 80lb.+ pack.
It's been over a month, and I'm still waking up with sore knees. Doesn't seem like any specific injury, just general inflammation.
I'm starting to hit the gym and do some running again, and hoping that strengthening them will help, but the pain isn't helping with exercise. I'm also going to get more consistent taking some glucosamine, tumeric, etc.

Any advice?

Quit doing things that agitate it until the pain is gone or you have professional guidance advising otherwise. Also, experienced PT's may very well be more helpful than an MD.

Knee's over toes guy has good stuff if you want to go the free route. However, given how important your knees are its worth the time and money to seek in person support IMO.

Dealing with same issues. Right knee has a hole in the cartilage but doc says it's just wear and tear nothing to worry about structurally. Left knee has lots of gravel sounds he says just burrs under the patella dragging back and forth and said over time it gets inflamed. Left knee flares up real bad after a 3 mile heavy ruck the other day, limped my way back to the truck. Doc gave me steroid shots in both knees prior to my Elk hunt soon and said it'll get me through the hunt.

You get pain for a reason and pain that is still going after a month Needs to be seen by " Professional people".
One could be doing more serious damage by training in the pain barrier.
