Ever hear of the 250 Savage? Developed in 1915. People used to kill truckloads of elk with them using standard cup and core lead bullets. This is not a new argument.
Imho a 257 and 6.5 bullet are almost identical. 6.5 have been killing big animals for a long time. I think the hardest idea to accept is a 223 can kill an elk at distance. 3 years ago I would have said, not ethical. Now it’s probably ok. I still won’t be doing it, but I would use a 6mm or 25 cal.

The smaller caliber match bullet is disruptive technology. Until those bullets existed, small calibers were limited in range and ability to take big game with the bullets that existed. This is a key part of the theory of small calibers for taking big game. You can’t just go grab any 223 or 6 mm bullet and have it work.
I think people on here overstate the groundbreaking nature of tipped match bullets, particularly in the 6mm. @Tahr has posted tons of big game kills with traditional big game bullets in .223, and @Formidilosus includes non-match bullets on his list of highly effective .223/6mm projectiles that he’s shared. I’m not arguing against the use of match bullets, but there’s plenty of other, older, options that are also effective.
Hunters have been effectively killing big game with 62-75 grain .223 bullets and 90-100 grain 6mm bullets for decades. I think the difference is now we have a massive body of evidence to prove it.

After listening to Form and some of the Gunworks people talk about Eld-m and Eld-x bullets I did make the switch to two of my rifles. I usually am an Accubond or LRX guy. My three elk and my son/nephew’s elk the results were drastically different then my past kills.
Now I’m stuck with all these reloading components and trying to switch to Eld m/x for my other rifles.

I’m still a guy who likes the big calibers and don’t have any issue shooting them. But I can put my kids in a less roiling rifle and be confident in their ability to stay on target.

But the 6.5 CM with an eld-m killed just as fast as my 338 with eld-x.

There's too many to delete on here, but let's keep the discussion to the facts of the debate, not insults on hat choice and voice inflection.

I mean if the other side started making fun of Ryan's beard, I'd be fired up and releasing the Meme gang on them lol
Oh come on, I get the not making fun of his hat but his monotone, slow voice should be fair gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaame.

Sorry, kind of fell asleep there just thinking about it.
