So we can look at the data Buzz pointed us to, it's from 2015. APHIS hasn't published the new one yet. Should be coming out any time but not out yet. (That's why he won't post a link.)

List the state, first number is % of predator deaths by dogs, second is by wolves. Judge for yourself which is a bigger problem in the west.

AZ: 35.3%, 9.9%
CO: .3%, 2.1%
ID: 0%, 33.1%
MT: 0%, 10.2%
NV: 0%, 0%
NM: .7%, 7.1%
OR: 0%, 17.8%
UT: 0%, 0%
WA: 8.5%, 24.2%
WY: 0%, 18.4%

Damn dogs.

Free of charge but it is only 2015 data. Coyotes seem to be the overwhelming predator problem. Which is very telling in itself in that a predator by occupation accounts for an outsized percentage of deaths compared to its population vs. say…domestic dogs. As has been mentioned, the state by state numbers tell the true story. Can only imagine those numbers have grown as the population of those predators have increased since 2015.

I’m a facts guy. On the internet you can’t believe anything you hear and less than half of what you see.

I see this…. Domestic dogs have been here… statistically since forever. I have no link to support that but I’m sure most if not all agree. Deer elk and moose have been fine. The state of affairs with livestock was what it was. That’s even with natural populations of wolves in places. But as soon as wolves were introduced by stupid humans things went to shit. Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan’s UP….. all experienced the same thing. Devastation of big game populations. My guess… yep no research done, is that wolves killed more elk in Yellowstone than domestic dogs have killed in decades.

To suggest that any amount of predation by dogs should have anything to do with the destruction caused by wolves is grasping at straws. I know for a fact people along the Montana/Idaho border will tell you that their dogs didn’t wipe out their elk and deer. Talking to people who live where there are wolves would be the best study. Do people really give credibility to government studies anyway? I can’t imagine so but they certainly whip that stuff out when it supports their agenda.

So barstool biology is what you trust? A study from the same locals that can't find an elk to kill? You trust them for your data?

CPW should take all the money they're using for the introduction program, along with the future $ they're gonna pay ranchers & just build some "natural habitat" pens in several towns for all the leftists & hippies to come see them. Have public feeding time & throw in some calves & some labradoodles to let them see what these things actually do in the wild.. maybe some will change their minds?

So, how about those numbers posted above about wolves vs domestic dog attacks out here in the West?

Do you still want to reference the study you talked about. I know you know everything about everything so I'll be curious to see how you spin all these domestic dog attacks out here in the West.

Has nothing to do with killing elk. We still get our elk every year but once wolves showed up in numbers there were less elk in our part of Idaho. It’s called on the ground observation being in the area year around. How do the biologist count elk? Spend a few days observing them ? It’s not bar stool biology it’s seeing with your own eyes that there is less elk after wolves in some cases ALOT less.

You should worry more about lions than wolves.
