After reading Becca's thread on lightening their first aid kit it got me to thinking what does everyone carry in theirs? I will list the contents of mine. After going through all of it I think I can lighten my kit as well. With all the contents my kit is coming in at 10.5 oz. I think I could save some weight by leaving some of this stuff at the truck in my larger kit that stays in the truck. Let’s see what people have in their back pack first aid kit.

Here are my contents.

1-1/8” x 3” wound closure strips
2-2” x 3” Non-stick gauze pads
4-3” x 3” Gauze pads

6-Advil
3-Tylonal PM
1-Crush tub or benzoin antiseptic

1-Tweezer
2-Safety pins
1-Small stick of GLIDE
2-Lightload towels
2-AA batteries
3-AAA batteries

Is there a use for the Alka-Seltzer besides the obvious?

Nope, but it doesn't weigh much! I get an upset stomach when I take ibuprofen, for this reason I try not to take it at home but due to ongoing discomfort in the leg I broke I do take some when I hike a long way and pack heavy loads (I keep additional Tylenol and Advil in my bino pouch for easy access since my accident...only have a few in the first aid kit, since sometimes Luke takes the kit and I am not along) I don't always need the alka seltzer, but when I do I am glad to have it!

Dangit!, I thought maybe Becca was onto something more fun with the Alka-Seltzer like maybe feeding it to Marmots and watching them blow up....J/k.. they can be a burden sometimes though, chewing up gear...

Ha ha, I wish...might have to try that!

Last year some unruly ground squirrels chewed up some tortillas we had along, as well as Luke's ball cap. For revenge, I peed in squirrel holes for the rest of the trip.... :)

I agree with most kits mentioned here, but I usually go spartan for all weather types and physical demands.

1 roll of sports tape (hockey tape)
40 pills Aleve
20 pills benadryl
moleskin and benzoin tincture (if hiking)
Leatherman Wave (if fishing or travelling with dogs who love to chase porcupines)

I just found small packets of celox at Wally World, about the size of a alcohol wipe.

These jumped into pocket with first aid stuff.
