Finishing a Stocky's factory second stock

Lots of stuff on here about painting stocks. I've done quite a bit of painting with a pretty wide range of results. I have a Stocky's "factory second" carbon fiber stock, and I'd really like to do this one right. It's not in bad shape by any means, but it has some pinholes and imperfections that are purely cosmetic. I want to paint the stock, but I'm concerned that painting will bring out the imperfections instead of covering them up.

I've read about a few different strategies. Some talk about using bondo, but I wouldn't really know how to begin with that. Others say to use a filling primer and then sand before applying the color of your choice. If anyone can share their process with me, I'd really appreciate it. There are so many little details (like what grit of sandpaper, when to dry sand vs wet sand, etc) that I don't know.

Marine Tex for texturing the fore end and grip you could also use it on any imperfections and sand smooth before paint. Then I believe Rapco (military grade and color matched) spray paint is the name and it’s the bees knees for diy stock paint

I had really good luck by just sanding mine, spraying it with self etching primer, then some stone/pebble texture, and then 5-6 coats of flat enamel clear coat.

It’s held up really well.
