Received my exhibition grade English walnut stock from Richards today. This I had asked to be cut in their classic rollover style fitted for a Tikka T3X lite 6.5 PRC with a one piece, aluminum high desert trigger guard in place of the plastic stock option.
I took it out of the box and just wetted it to see what we’re dealing with as far as grain flow and appearance and very, very happy with what I’m seeing. The stock should finish up into a very, very nice heirloom quality rifle.
I probably have at least 20 to 25 hours of sanding, final shaping and bedding and then once I start doing...

I started this thread in the firearms forum but this one may be better suited, so I am moving it here. Will update progress in this forum.
But in short, I wanted to put together a nice, heirloom quality wood stocked hunting rifle that stays in our family and is passed down. Even if it doesn't get hunted with just something that get stays in family.
Anyways, did one last wet sand coat last night with 600 grit paper and water, then another thin coat of 50/50. I will snap some pics tonight after its dried up and post. Grains should be 100% fully filled in. If so, I will start finishing coats to build up shine. 12-15 very thin coats of 50/50, buffed out with 0000 steel wool, between each coat. Then the last few coats with 100% tru oil. Going for that High Gloss finish.
