Corporate ranching/farming in South Dakota has been outlawed for quite a few years:

—————————————————————————————————————————
47-9A-1. Agriculture prohibited as corporate or limited liability company purpose.

The Legislature of the State of South Dakota recognizes the importance of the family farm to the economic and moral stability of the state, and the Legislature recognizes that the existence of the family farm is threatened by conglomerates in farming. Therefore, it is hereby declared to be the public policy of this state, and shall be the provision of this chapter, that, notwithstanding the provisions of § 47-1A-301, no foreign or domestic corporation, except as provided herein, shall be formed or licensed under the South Dakota Business Corporation Act for the purpose of owning, leasing, holding or otherwise controlling agricultural land to be used in the business of agriculture.

It is further declared that no foreign or domestic limited liability company, except as provided herein, shall be formed or licensed under the South Dakota Limited Liability Company Act for the purpose of owning, leasing, holding or otherwise controlling agricultural land to be used in the business of agriculture.”

South Dakota doesn’t have very much Public land something like 11-14% is public I think. Yet South Dakota (West River) has been very successful with recruiting private ranch land for public hunting. Private ranches/farms can only get landowner tags to hunt big game for their own personal use. Minimum acres for a landowner tag used to be 320 acres.

Wyoming is somewhat less than half private or used to be. Montana has a much higher percentage of private land. Montana also has traditionally had a larger problem with hunting opportunity. American Prairie wants control of millions of acres in Eastern Montana for eco-tourism. ARP was partially funded by int’l annd domestic oligarchs. They have built luxury yurts to attract oligarchs and the very rich. They are building huge buffalo herds, bison that are not to be consumed. The AR CEO has visions of channeling grizzlies and wolves into their immense park. ARP is also grazing their “Zoo” bison on BLM leases that they obtained by buying out the local ranchers. I would like to point out that AR does allow hunting on a small area of their land holdings and has 80K acres in Block Management. However, that is just a drop in the bucket for their total land holdings. They do not use the North American Model for Wildlife Management because the primary use is eco-tourism.

Turner Enterprises has approx. about 1 million acres in New Mexico now. Recently they bought 300,000 acres in South NM that used to be some of the best trophy mule deer hunting in the country. Big emphasis on “used to be”. However New Mexico has bigger problems with hunter opportunity than that. I am one of those hunters that think residents should have equal opportunity to hunt. I am of the opinion that a person resident or non-resident shouldn’t need to be wealthy to hunt big game. I also believe that Wildlife is owned by the public and should be scientifically managed by the public.

Majority of the LLC and Corps are set for liability protections, these aren’t publicly traded corporate giants also.

I am a descendent of one of the founding families of Kansas. My G-Grandfather emigrated to a state further North because of the great depression and some others left Kansas also. Many of the homesteads combined into larger farms because of estate sales over the years but they are still there in central Kansas!

47-1A-301. Purposes.

Any corporation incorporated under this chapter has the purpose of engaging in any lawful business unless a more limited purpose is set forth in the articles of incorporation.

A corporation engaging in a business that is subject to regulation under another statute of this state may incorporate under this chapter only if permitted by, and subject to all limitations of, the other statute.

Basically unless we say you can't. Currently looking at a 12,500 corporate owned dairy being built on land owned by the Governors brothers. Another dairy, slightly smaller owned by the scme Corp was built outside a town who's mayor is the Governors brothers in law. Whole lotta hogs and poultry raised here owned by large corporations.
