Because it would be less accessible to the kids, being in his pocket, as opposed to a more accessible waist holster.

BTW
ADs can, and do, happen. That's why they're called accidents. No amount of safeguards or prevention is 100%.

How is a gun in pocket (not physically attached to anything) any less accessible than one tucked inside a pair of pants, secured to a rigid belt with strong belt clips, held by positive retention, and covered with a shirt?

I’m starting to wonder why some of you think it is more likely for a child to stick their hand down the front of your pants than in your pocket…

Think about for awhile. Maybe it will come to you.
Lol....I've been thinking about it for a while also...it's not coming to me! I have for sure had my kids try to go into my pockets for stuff before...I've never had one of them try to go reach UNDER my pants! If you're kids are doing that you MIGHT want to have a conversation with them...just saying!

If your kids are going into your pockets, maybe YOU'RE the one that should be having the talk.

I think you and the other guy assume IWB is the only carry option on a belt.

My thoughts exactly. I actually tell my son to hold onto my pocket when Im loading the other kids into car seats in parking lots, etc. I’m starting to get genuinely concerned here haha.

Lol...IWB is the only way I would ever carry an EDC weapon because it is the most secure method by a LONG shot. So yeah, I disregard the non-secure options like OWB, pocket, or (god forbid) off body carry.

Lol...well if you say so, it must be true. I can only imagine how smart you'll be when you reach 30.

Please explain to me how moving the gun further from your core improves weapon security?

I'll go grab a coffee while I wait.

Thank you all with your thoughts on the subject. Not trying to start any fights here. I will put some more thought to this and take some of the advice into consideration.

For those of you carrying aiwb, what good kydex holsters do you recommend?

My $0.02 is think hard about where you store the gun when yo aren’t wearing it. Locked case, small safe, big safe. Kids are curious And they get around more than you would think. Don’t rely on a gun being out of reach or hard to find.

FWIW I am a fan of the single pistol fort knox safes. Gun vault is a decent option but mine could be payed with a screw driver by a kid. I don’t trust it.

I like the safariland ALS holsters. They have a thumb lock on them that is very secure and doesn't hamper draw speed at all. That in combination with a lock box near the door of the house so you can easily have the gun either on you or locked up. It eliminates the temptation to just put it on the counter or something when you get home.

My biggest fear is an “accident” that would involve a negligent discharge that would injury my little ones. So I’m reaching out for ideas and advice.
You and you alone have absolute control over a negligent discharge. Negligent discharges involve negligence. You are asking what might be the best set up to help mitigate your negligence. Frankly, I find your question more than a little disturbing.
