Looking to see if folks have good experience/advice for EDC setup for somebody with small children. I have a daughter that is a little under 2 years old with another one on the way. I have been struggling with EDC options to protect my family/little ones if God forbid the need ever arose. My biggest fear is an “accident” that would involve a negligent discharge that would injury my little ones. So I’m reaching out for ideas and advice.

Appendix carry almost seems like a no-go for me. My daughter will run up and hug daddy’s legs, so I don’t want my pistol pointed at her. I suppose I could try some sort of 3 o’clock or 4’oclock iwb. I could carry her on the opposite hip.

Also, I’m really not a manual safety guy, but I’m afraid of the trigger getting manipulated and going off. Should I maybe pocket carry with a snub nose? Can they get that out easily? Im at the point to where I’m deciding if the risk is lower to not carry than to carry.

Interested in others thoughts.

I have a 4 year old and twin 1 year old and have a glock 43x in appendix every second I am not asleep. If you have the gun in a good kydex holster that covers the trigger, it cannot be fired. Period. You cannot carry a gun anywhere on you body that wouldnt eventually end up flagging a small child running around. Appendix is the most secure spot IMO because it is in you working space and you have full control over it (your hands, eyes, everything has quick access to that area. If kids jump on me, run up to me, reach for me, etc I can deflect, move, or shield that area faster than anywhere else. Its right by my hands all day. Small of back is totally out of the question for me wresting with kids. Pocket carry is dangerous as hell, and still pointed same general area as appendix. Off body carry is a non option for me with small children.

Weigh the probability of you needing a firearm for personal protection or self defense vs accidental discharge and causing injury/death to a child.

You can’t ND if it is in a good holster.

I iwb appendix carry and have young kids. They know it's there and know not to talk about it. I tried an ankle holster but didn't like it. Easier to conceal appendix carry IMO.

I appendix carry a Glock 43x in a Tier1 holster with shield arms mags so I can have 15+1 loaded and a 15+5 spare. I have a 2 and a 4 year old so when I’m home, I clear the one in the chamber but leave the mag in. It’s easy for a kid to pull the trigger but they’re nowhere near strong enough to rack in a round in the off chance they get a hold of it.

You could get something like a Kahr with a loooong trigger pull but they are difficult to shoot accurately, at least for me.

A properly holstered firearm regardless of position cannot be negligently discharged. If you’re not comfortable or confident, then don’t carry. I’m not trying to be jerk, but accidents happen when folks aren’t confident in what they’re doing.

Quality kydex holster (I like G Code). You’re overthinking a bit but I get it with a child potentially involved.

Appendix is something you need to get mentally and physically used to. 3-4 o’clock is easier but you don’t have as much control over it. Pros and cons to both.

My biggest fear is not having the means to protect myself and worse a loved one if needed. Get a quality kydex holster and get used to carrying it no matter what. Like others have mentioned. If the trigger is covered it can’t go bang.

Quality kydex holster IWB at 3 or 4. Completely covers the trigger and you can always heat it up and mold to make retention more than the child could ever overcome.

Training and practice fit in there as well.

Are there any stories about an accidental discharge carrying appendix with a kydex holster? I personally don’t see how that is possible.
