Saw mention of a similar poll on the American Alpine Institute blog. In short, if there were an emergency situation in the mountains, would you be willing to eat your (presumably dead) hunting partner in order to survive?

I don't think I would. I think my partner dieing would give me extra motivation to get my way out. Knowing whether he has a mom, dad, wife, or kids back home waiting oh him would be the push. He'd deserve a proper burial. His family deserves that. I know circumstances can be different. I mean if it meant eating him for a couple meals to carry on, I just don't know. I think I'd starve.

If I'm already out there hunting, I can find plenty to eat without becoming a cannibal. I can also go quite some time without food.

If the tables were turned and I was the carcass, I would not object to my body feeding others. @ that point I'm done w it. Hopefully no A-holes or zombies, though..

While in the backcountry I ran into a guy with a string of Llamas that said he ate one that was the meanest PIA that nearly killed him with it's antics, seemed like he was serious.

I think so. I miss more than 1 meal and things get bad, which is unfortunate for whoever I'm hunting with. Plus I always bring KC Masterpiece which makes anything taste great.

I don't think anyone could honestly answer that question unless faced with the situation. I don't see how, in our modern world, anyone would ever be faced with that situation.

My hunting partner is a big dude. I could probably survive all winter on his remains. That said, I don't see it being plausible to answer. I'd say NO right now but this is a crazy what-if scenario that none of us could possibly answer from the comfort of our current location of responding to this forum.

I would do whatever I had to do to get back to my wife and kids. Obviously would attempt to secure game or fish by hunting, fishing, trapping, scavenging etc. But if It came down to it....Id eat anything to get home

joking answer: Can't be much worse than mountain house.

Serious answer: My thoughts exactly.

My brother has agreed to carry my head out for my wife to make sure she gets the insurance money.

If he died, I would just take his gun and kill my own food. It is a much better gun than the one I have.

If it is the only option for my survival and he's already dead, of course I would.

Like many have already said, it would be extremely unlikely that resorting to cannibalism would be the only option for for my continued existence.

Hopefully I'm not out with Steve Rinella or any other trichinosis carrier. Or at least I had the foresight to pack a meat thermometer so I can verify he's done to 165* internal temp.

I wouldn't want to be in that situation. But Bruce, as in "Where'sBruce" shot me, several times, on one of our outings. He was a bit to horrified to think about eating anything, at least at the time.
