Maybe, but there are several areas around there that the cops just stay out of, Alder Point being one of them. They pretty much just let the local scum bags deal with their own scum bag lives.

There is a good documentary series on Netflix called Murder Mountain that touches on Alder Point and the lawlessness of the area.

I can't believe this hasn't been made more public. I'd never heard of this before listening to that podcast.

I imagine the frequency of illegal grows will fall off now that marijuana is legal in CA.

The grows described by Rinellas guest, who was a retired game warden, were all well funded, installed and protected by seriously bad cartel dudes. Listen to the podcast. so many negative impacts. Game and non game animals being poisoned by long outlawed poison smuggled into the states. Trout/salmon streams getting sucked dry, tons of waste, fair amount toxic, and the weed is getting poisoned and sold on the black market throughout the Midwest and east coast.
Deadly booby traps and profits helping the gunrunning/human trafficking businesses they also run.

In the late '80s we were briefed by USFS law enforcement before being allowed to cruise timber in northern California. They told us what to look for and what to do when finding a grow site. Also warned us about the new problems of cooking other chemical concoctions on public land.

Back east I have found it a fair amount in VA and WV while working in locations that were open to public access hunting. Sometimes a plant or two, sometimes pick-up truck loads in one spot. Some local individuals, some organized groups. More than once I've come out of the woods with co-ordinates and a sample in my pocket to let the landowner (public or private) deal with it as they see fit.

Before working on any property I ask the landowner if there are any grows or operations that they know about or if any neighbors have a reputation that I should be aware of - have been given some interesting answers.

Be careful out there......

I used to sneak in and plant seismic sensors in grow sites. We could remotely monitor the tenders activity. Once the plants were near harvest time and activity was detected we would swoop in and wrap up the operation. Execute search warrants on the involved homes.
We had access to DEA helicopters and pilots for a predetermined amount of flight time each year.
We would get leads on grows that were at someone’s home or farm. We would use our flight time to fly over their homes and identify plants. Land in their yard secure the residence for crime scene processing and a search warrant for the property.
That’s the other side of the grows😀

I don’t know what’s worse the cartel US growers or STX cartel smugglers.

Nothing better then border patrol waking you up, to give you a heads up they just had a shoot out 5 miles down the road, or where they just appear out of no where, look at your boots then let you know that they are tracking some guys from a shoot out the day before, and to make sure you are armed and paying attention

I know they've busted a few grows in national forest in southern Colorado. SWAT hit my neighbor last year. Cuban syndicate, grow operation, supposedly. Dude had trained carrier pigeons! I'm just glad they didn't flash bang his ass or throw lead, as I was home with the toddler.

Expect the opposite. These guys are not growing for "local consumption", they have a national market to sell to. Their money is literally growing on trees...err, uhh...bushes. Now the heat on pot is lessened they will be emboldened to expand their CA operations. These guys aren't walking away from easy millions. Nuh uh.

I've run into several, also been checked by forest service leo while sleeping in my truck the night before opening day. Seen them in A zone b zone and d zone.
Last season I killed my buck behind a grow that backed up to blm. On the pack out the bud tenders saw me and came on a quad to check me out. Ended up giving me a ride to my truck although they didn't speak any English and me no Spanish. Was rad and awkward at the same time. They refused to take anything as payment. They got a gracias as they wanted no dinero.

I used to live across the street from the largest cocaine ring int he eastern US at the time. He was a nice neough guy.

Found a couple empty pots in the woods once - it was set to grow.

Was looking at a piece of land and had way too much activity checking us out. Did a good google earth check and found the stash about 1,000 feet into the woods on the opposite side of the road.

Crazy stuff out there.

I wonder if that's what your realtor meant when she said "Location, location, location.":)

You never would have known. I was like 12. The guy had a biker gang and 12-20 Harleys would show up somewhat regularly. The only time anything was even odd was when his woman tried to leave and they did something under her car. Aside from the noise and the bikes, they seemed like average folks.

Never know. My neighbor here - he's always working on cars. I swear he's putting drugs into the innards and taking it out. He's got cameras all over and monitors the traffic on the road. Wish he'd put a little of his profits into taking acre of his house...
