Does everyone that kills a 190 class buck just round up to 200”?

I spent yesterday walking around the hunting expo looking at mounts. Many of which I’ve seen pictures of online and heard claims of scores. I feel like I hardly ever hear people talk about killing deer in the 190’s but I do hear a lot of claims of 200” deer.
I saw a post today of a really nice typical 4 point with no eye guards. The post said #200inchclub. It was a nice buck but jeez.. do people realize how big a deer has to be to score 200” as a typical? You’re not fooling anyone but yourself.
I kill to follow a b&c scorer around that place and get their honest opinions on some of these animals.

A lot of people seem to just guess at score without actually putting tape on it as well. Could be with the buck that it’s a 200” gross, net could be a decent amount lower than that

Deer only come in even numbers 140, 160, 180, 200 220 and 240. It’s kind of like asking a cowboy how old his horse is it seems to always come out in odd numbers.

Many people throw an incorrect tape on their animals or just figure they’re about that. I’ve had people tell me about the 200” buck they saw, we put eyes on the exact same buck and he’s more like 160. I’ve also seen guys print off the BC score sheet and add ALL the numbers together like add the outside spread instead of inside spread, or use greatest spread. Gross vs net.

But in all honesty a 200” sounds better than 190”

That’d be an idea for a YouTube channel I could get behind. Become an official scorer and walk around trade shows with a tape asking people if you can score their mounts.

I’ve seen clips of a guy that does that with dudes heights. He asks them how tall they are and then pulls out a tape after they tell him 😂 same same
This is the kind of hunting content we need, shaming the scammy outfitters

People do the same thing with estimating how far a shot it, grossly overestimating the distance. It was especially bad before laser range finders. Dudes will swear up and down something's 300+ yards, when it's sitting at 220, or the like. Part ego, part ignorance.

There's plenty of numbers that get spit out in search of credibility, but it's also nice to see some of the other bucks that you start doing a quick numbers add up as you take a glance that would surprise a guy how big they actually are.

You are not wrong

Years ago, there was an official Boone and Crockett scorer at the expo with a booth of officially scored bucks. Just across the way was a well-known Outfitter with a whole bunch of “bro scored bucks“

Let’s just say the 200 official bucks were dwarfing the 210 bucks in the outfitter booth

Even w 3 stickers off the back ya can’t see = this one did not 😆🤦🏼‍♂️…..

What I find more interesting is the instafamous models who constantly shoot sub 180 bucks and make it seem like it was hard or a big accomplishment 🤡🤡🤡……

I shot a nice antelope and mule deer with an outfitter in AB way back when. Nice animals that both went P&Y but when their news letter came out and both my animals were in it the scores were about 15% high.

Also, I don't watch much Youtube but a guy with a scale asking women how much they weigh would be entertaining for a minute. So would a guy at shows scoring animals.

Just because a buck is 200 doesnt mean it is an accomplishment either. It’s the hunt and what the harvest means to the hunter.

If said hunter is trying to monetize their harvest with false click-baity claims. Screw that.

If they are honest about their walk with god and try to impress positive ethics and morals upon the audience. Good for them if they shot a 160” deer and have a youtube video to share with everybody.

A little devils advocate to put you rokslide-famous models in your place 🤡

I think it’s worse with elk. I have a handful of 280-295 bulls in my garage that most people would say are 310+. Takes a lot of bull to go legit 300 gross in my opinion. And most don’t even consider that big. I weed through 20-30 bulls on otc public hunts before I see a 300. And weeded through 150-200 bulls over many years before I found a 350+. And killed him.

Lots of embellishments for both bucks and bulls, but I’ll stand by harder to find a 200 buck than a 350 bull in Co these days
