I was just curious how many of you might openly discuss firearms-related topics. Are you more discreet around certain people or in public?
Are you more open with other gun buddies than with people you don't know? How does our surrounding culture determine how we talk about our most precious right and hobby?

Well, I don't talk about anything firearm related on the phone.


In actually talking to people handle everyone the same.

Rarely comes up as a topic. Everyone I know have had their guns for years so it is just not a topic. Discussing them on a public forum let alone showing pictures seems risky in this environment.

When the subject of firearms comes up around people that are not (in to) firearms is a great opportunity to help educate them on some the realities that they may not be aware of.
So yes, i don't overwhelm them but talk to them about things they may not be aware of about those nasty firearms ...

My firearms conversation with people I don't know is "Don't Ask Don't Tell". Once I am friends with somebody if they bring it up I weight my decision from there. So some friends I have never told and known them for years - other people I just met may know, but I never start the conversation.

I also give out my SSN and bank account password when the bank calls or the IRS or the sherriffs Department with a warrant that I didnt know I had.

I’m in my 50s and have lived with guns most of my life. That said it’s way down the list of conversation topics even with my buddies. Kids, sports, hunting, fishing mostly. Notice I left out work.
