DIY projects thread

I liked as.ks.ak 's idea of keeping his projects on a individual thread so I thought I would follow with my own. Not really looking to do much custom work just wanted feed back on projects and to contribute some ideas for others that have the bug. First is a custom vortex Viper 20-60x spotting scope cover. I was very disappointed with the neoprene condom it comes with and wanted to improve. Id like to build a wrap around Velcro cover for the focus barrel ( hence the Velcro on the ocular end but haven't gotten there yet.

I also finished up my own version of puffy pants last winter, looking forward to getting some time behind the scope in them this weekend. It was my first experience with RSBTR .56 oz down proof fabric. Very impressed thus far but can be tough to work with. I used. 4 oz of 850 fill from loose goose and it will compress into a Nalgene pretty easily. I also did the zippers on crotch side instead of down the outside of the leg, originally intended them to be ass'less chaps but discovered there is a reason companies don't make down ass'less chaps. keep the orange pouch on my hip belt during rifle season so they usually get tucked in there for quick access when I'm gonna sit for a bit.

My version of a caro step down quilt. Kudos to " Tac Blades" as I stole a few of his ideas. I used 16 oz of 850 fill from loose goose and am pretty comfortable down to 15 degrees in it. ( very dependent on a good sleeping pad of coarse) This project is one of the reasons I wanted to start posting here. There are defiantly some things I wish I would have done differently and ideas that sounded great at the time but turned out to be quite a steaming pile once done.

I've gone through atleast a dozen generations of bino harnesses it the most recent has Magnetic closure and molle webbing on the front for a left sided pouch and I keep the range finder clipped on the right. Can't see it but there is a license pouch in the back and molle on the bottom for the bear seasoning. I use a spot x for GPS messenger so the pouch has a friction fit sleeve... just upgraded to a garmin so it may be time to upgrade the pouch also... it does fit my phone and I keep a battery pack in the zippered portion along with ammo and a lense cleaner

I use a Hammock and Tarp during Archery season. I needed a nice self contained shelter package that would hold tent stakes and was relatively water proof so a wet Tarp doesn't soak my others tuff. Also my first endeavor with xpack. Awsome stuff to work with.

I did, well for the first attempt I cut up a pair of scrubs. These are the second attempt. Having the zippers on the inside of the leg works really well but does require allot of tinkering in the crotch area. This pair has a big gap in the crotch. I'm working on the 3rd iteration now to fix it.

This one was a fun project and I kept the pattern so I could probably crank out a few if people were interested. I don't have any other color of xpac at the moment.

Thanks Man, I use a singer quantum 9960. The wife needed 100k different stitch patterns that never get used. Does light weight rip stop well but can hardly get through two pieces of webbing.

Id like to claim sole design inspiration of this one, but it was in collaboration with Trackerbacker. Affectionately known as the T-Bag. This is a 12L add on bag for MR that can attach to the frame as a stand alone bag as well. Also did an additional bird bag that can attach to the Tbag or the original MR bag. Essentially an oversized " MR stick-it".

Hey @j43097 that's me!

J's got some good time and input on the bag, some field trials and ideations on it too. after my R&R from my WT season finish is done, he should be getting address and $ from me (read:wife has to paypal him, not a user of apps).

I'll be excited to get out to test it on pheasant and squirrel, scouting and winter camping.

Will post up my review and uses here after the seasons are over. J will get first dibs on reviewing my review and use case.

Super excited, super fun project.

Going to tag onto @j43097 to keep it straight.

I received a special box in the mail today, and couldn't wait, with being sick, to grab it and play around.

The TBAG is legit. J's sewing, design, attachment points are all on point. The fabric is top notch as well.

I jumped right in with the tbag, tore my pack apart and got to playing. For the night, I ended focused on the main idea for it, for the tbag to be a camp drop bag (for now), adaptable for daypack and or as a bird bag.

I will get to the bird bag, the tbag, the tbag and bird bag combo, and associated testing in the future. But for now here's so (probably awful) pictures...



Stats and fill:
Mr sawtooth 45l (from bottom to top)-
-Hardlayer pants and jacket in bottom
-6 days food next to stove+fuel+1.5l pot nest
-Tarp-tarp kit-acc kit-kill kit
-hat and gloves.
-3l water bladder in sleeve
-first aid and headlamp in top pouch

TBAG (12l)-
20*bag
BA r5 sleeping pad
Sts bag liner
Pillow

Total guestimation, the sawtooth is not close to full, the TBAG is full. Main bag I would guess is in the 27# range, the TBAG is in the 6# range?

Again, top notch across the board. Can't wait to test it, the bird bag, and all 3 combos.

A slightly updated version of the previous puffy pants.
used simple 1.1oz ripstop nylon and .56 oz nylon as well as 4 oz 850 fill hyper dry treated down.
unfortunately ran out of the pure white down and had to supplement some gray 850 fill mid project. Its a little more obvious than I had hoped. But they got gifted to a buddy and beggars cant be choosers.
Overall 10.5 oz.
