I switch from Phone Skope to the mountain mag and have not regretted it.

I really like not needing a proprietary phone case, and with MagSafe, no plates or other permanent proprietary magnet systems are needed.

I’ve used the mag view one and what I didn’t like was that you have to line it up yourself. The benefit of it is that you can use any phone case. Ollin solves that by auto aligning based on magnets but you need a proprietary case, which for my phone adds to the footprint of the case and is kind of cumbersome.

Between those two, pick your poison.

Definitely like the design of this. My only concern is my UAG case seems like the magnet is weak. Won't hold my phone to the fridge door. Is that something to be concerned with?

All I've used is Ollin and zero complaints.

Ollin is a slick system but my complaint is that it covers the flashlight on my phone so I can’t use it with the case on. Would have been pretty straight forward to leave a hole where the light is but they didn’t, and for that reason, I’m out.

For the Mountain Mag folks, are there magnets in the mountain mag eye piece? Are there enough to hold a phone in place? I suspect there may be a mix of magnets and steel that control the alignment between the adapter and eye piece...

I realize the purpose of this system is to overcome the manual alignment required with the Mag View system, but I would like to be able to use multiple different phone models and not have to have multiple adapters... unfortunately, my wife and I each have 2 phones and none of them are the same models... and both of mine have the worst cameras, so i like to steal hers....

The Mag View B1 eye piece is too big to be usable with binos to eyes, so I'm hoping to cross pollenate systems and use the Mountain Mag eye piece with the Mag View magsafe plate on the back of our phones...

Ollin is a fabulous system with instant phone camera alignment....100X better than my old Phone Skope system was. And Ollin has the magnetic lens cover for the scope eyepiece that is very secure.

I've used Ollin and loved it for the ease of alignment. Then I seen an add for Kapture and I looked into it. Ordered late last summer before I started my guiding season. This system is sweet. I've tried other systems before I had Ollin and thought that nothing would top Ollin. Kapture is the best system I have used. Worth the money I paid.

I don’t know anything about the UAG cases. I use an iPhone, and a plain phone case with no enhanced MagSafe feature. The Mountain Mag securely attached to the phone and alignment is incredibly natural. It must be alternating magnets in the MagSafe system because it sucks right in and auto rotates several degrees of rotation. Picking which lens you want it on is easy and I haven’t had problems with it moving during use.

With the adaptor on the optic, it locks in nicely and is secure. Don’t get me wrong, if your optic tips over or a clumsy hand or shoulder gives the phone a pretty strong bump, the magnets won’t hold and the phone will be sent on an undesired trip. But I think any stronger of a magnet would make removal a bigger chore than it should be and be a concern for fighting it off which could also cause the phone to go flying. Ultimately, I think it’s a very good balance of security and useful strength.

Oh, I don’t know anything about the phone magnets sticking to the fridge. Nothing ferrous sticks to my phone, only magnets.

I’ve downloaded the app and messed around with it a little (but not attached it to an optic yet while using the app). I also am using the free version. It does seem pretty good and I should just take the time to get out my setup in the yard to try it out.

I just got Mountain Mag delivered last week. For me since I have a big case it really only works with the case removed but a thinner case may work. It's a 3 piece system: cup/eyepiece that slides over the optic, a magnet adapter for the phone, and a little cover for the eye cup. They all use very strong magnets. I have a Pixel 10 plus which is a fairly heavy phone.

The magnets snap into place and are pretty sturdy. The only adjustment I had to do was to make sure the spotter's eyepiece was adjusted out a little so my phone would focus. The phone adapter snaps to your phone's internal battery so no adjustment there. It was maybe 30 seconds to get things rolling but once I got things how I want them it's only a couple seconds to be filming.

I had to turn off macro settings so my phone wouldn't try to use that lens. I only did some tinkering with my Swarovski ATC and the 2x zoom. They have a stabilizer app that I haven't tried yet.

Seems like it could be a really cool feature to eliminate shaky video. Especially for my setup which is ultralight and not rock solid.

I just did a quick setup on a 17-40 spotter looking at mountains 2.5-3 miles away. I don’t have the paid MM app, so it won’t let you record or take photos while in stabilization mode, but can still view the stabilized image.

It definitely helps significantly with shake. I would likely buy and use it if I could. I consider the subscription trend to be similar to rent. I might do the month option during my next hunt to see if it’s something I really do use. Frankly, I think their annual price of $40 is probably at the top end of what I would consider to buy it. I’m not sure I can get to paying $40 every year for it.

I just ordered and received Kapture. Not super impressed, as of yet. And it was expensive!
The big draw for me was using more than 1 lense, to get more zoom out of the camera while on the scope.
Doesn’t seem like that gets talked about much, but the benefit of being able to use all 3 cameras on a system like Magview is huge, in my opinion. Zoom in and out, to find the clearest picture.
So with Kapture, from initial set up and messing around, I can only get it to use 1 of my lenses and that one will only go to 4.9x zoom, then anything above that is black. Yea you can line it up and lock it on another lense, but I see nothing but black on the other lenses, at any zoom setting.
Maybe someone with more knowledge of the Kapture system can help me, before I return it or sell it. If I “lock it” on one camera, I’m still
only getting limited zoom, right?
As of now leaning toward going back to Magview, strictly for the use of all lenses on the scope. The classic problems people refer to about lining up and magnetic chargers, don’t bother me.
I’ve tried Ollin too, but being limited to one camera all the time, while on scope and off, doesn’t do it for me.
Anyway, it’s the age old current debate. Different strokes for different folks and different applications. But I’m not sure I’m buying all the hype on Kapture.
