It is that old adage "give an inch they will take a mile". I have no problem complying with a private businesses desire if I choose to patronize said business. I have a serious issue with government overreach. It's not about safety it is always about control.

The moment you threaten to take away someone's business or livelihood because they won't comply with your demands is when I have a issue. Think of the lives lost to the virus regardless of how you feel about the inflation of numbers for the sake of this I'll assume they are correct. So take in the numbers of increased suicide due to the lockdowns and unemployment shutdowns and layoffs. Take also in to account for the families that are losing income permanently or semi permanently do to that and the next generation coming up impoverished. Or about the homes/cars being repossessed from people that did nothing wrong because some bureaucrat decided they couldn't operate their business any longer. The long term effects of these shutdowns far outweigh the toll of the virus in my opinion.

You can not take away someone's freedom in the guise of public safety. If you are worried about the virus or have a family member that's high risk wear your mask and a tychem suit for all I care but don't try to force others to do the same that do not feel the need to.
That's a whole lot of words to say you don't like what the government did but you refuse to be part of the solution because.....'Merica.

I just wonder if everybody would feel the same if this was a different disease, like ebola for example, and the death rate was 50%. Would personal freedom still be more important? I also wonder what the Chicoms are learning from our responses to their disease?

I’m in LE. Our suicides and overdoses are through the roof compared to other years. Why do you think that is? Despair, job loss, fear. That is not being tracked or quantified in any way the way they’re tracking COVID deaths. Are people dying from COVID. Yes. Are people dying because of the way government is FORCING people into despair. YES. Which is the greater evil?

The fact that they have said that the restrictions will continue as the vaccine rolls out tells you all you need to know.

Hospitals, clinics, wherever you could get vaccinated, would look like Walmart on Black Friday if the death rate was significantly higher. Freedom would be much less of a focal point.

Exactly! Even though multiple vaccines have been rolling out, no plan or steps of a plan has been laid out. There has only been talk of further restrictive mandates and executive orders.

I said this in another thread, but it would make the most sense to not vaccinate the immune and make more efficient use of what vaccines are available by using on those who never had the virus or didn't develop antibodies. Presumably the highest percentage of immune people would be healthcare and "frontline workers" since they were the most effected group. So the odds are a high percentage of what vaccines are being administered right now are going into people who are already immune....so they are wasted.

I predict once nearly all folks have been vaccinated, there will still be a few more months of restrictions "to make sure we are safe". I also would bet that the answer for any pushback in that will be something a long the lines of "it took so long to roll out vaccines that the first few groups antibodies wore off".

If solutions were the goal there would have been a staged process to achieve natural herd immunity, rather than restriction, infected, further restrictions, more infected, repeat, repeat.

If that's what you gather out of that ok. Put your blinders on and be led from pasture then..
That's all there was, but please further explain. You blathered on lamenting the loss of people's livelihoods and personal freedoms due to COVID-relates regulation, but offer no solutions and express no willingness to be part of the solution.

What I have seen from you on this topic is is no vaccine, conspiracy theories with no citations when challenged, and a refusal to listen to expert consensus because you form your own opinions (as an immunologist, no doubt).

The anti-vax people on this site expressing the opinion that the vaccine is equivalent to government over-reach are no different than the suburban LA moms claiming the measles vaccine will cause their kale-fed toddler to be autistic. Change my mind.

Huh? Where have you been? No plan regarding vaccination? You don't know what you're talking about. Also, herd immunity is one approach, not the only approach.

This is the truth and half the site can’t stand to face it.

I want to clarify I am not indifferent to the pain that so many people have endured nor to the fear and uncertainty that so many people have towards future. Just to the arguing about which side is more noble.

I'm largely in different, but I am still trying to understand how masks and a vaccine have become the symbol that people have rallied around. With all of the taxes, regulatuons, patriot act, cell phone metadata, and Alexia listening in, this was straw that took our liberty? I really can not grasp it, but I am admittedly no expert on any of it. Just a thought. I fully support everyone's right to make ones own choices.
I think it has been more of the lock downs than anything else. The masks and vaccine were the next big thing and many people drew a line in the sand. It took long enough.

No plan to reduce and eliminate restrictions. Nobody has laid out what the goal is.

Great point. 50% easily contagious virus would be much worse than war. Personal freedom would be gone, like the civil war and what Lincoln did, which went too far suspending habeas corpus as an example. Vaccines were required by law for Small Pox and upheld by Supreme Court. Vaccines might be required by law for this virus, I hope not, however the government can't physically force people to take it either.
