Didn’t Receive the Vaccine Today

I’m an “essential” worker. My oldest has asthma. I have concerns about bringing something home. I’m not overly concerned about myself. I understand the math. I don’t agree with all of the lockdowns. I don’t think that buying lottery tickets at the Quick-E Mart is more essential than the small businesses being shut down.

I will take the vaccine when it becomes available to me, acting as our family’s guinea pig. I’m not overly concerned about long term effects. My wife has worked for several pharmaceutical companies and says that this type of vaccine is unlikely to be problematic.

I live in a large metro area and think little of the risks associated with driving to get vaccinated and my potential interactions with gang bangers in the process.
YMMV

The one word that is problematic in there is “unlikely”

Yeah. I get it, but nothing is 100% guaranteed. There are going to be some people who will have some kind of allergic reaction to the vaccine and need adrenaline or an epi-pen.

She understands the math too. And me.

And she commented to me that if I believe what I say about the odds of my getting eaten by a bear on one of my hunts, I should really have no tremulous concerns about the odds with the vaccine.

Not picking on you but allergic reactions are not the concern.
Short term adverse outcomes are not the issue. It’s the unknown long term effects.

Not feeling picked on. Not implying that I have all of the answers. Not trying to be a dick.

What sort of long term adverse conditions are you talking about that are related to vaccines?

I understand uneasiness with anything new and especially fast-tracked. My hat is off to whoever took that first dose and then rolled around in Covid to test it.

I’m just saying that I’m more concerned with my at risk family members getting sick. I’ll be the family lab rat for short term adverse outcomes and continue to roll with the math with hope for long-term.

I don’t sell vaccines and my wife is out of the pharmaceutical industry. I believe in personal liberty. I still hope that enough people take it...That it’s effective enough. That the virus doesn’t mutate enough to reduce efficacy. That things normalize. That my kid, my sister-in-law, my wife’s niece, my buddy’s kid, all at risk, don’t get infected.

God wouldn't that be funny....oh so serious this thing....well only until governor wants to go to a football game...then its uh well maybe.....haaahaaahaaaahaaa.

Too funny...

sorry busy today. literally a 15 sec pubmed search pulled up this:

Thus diabetes induced by vaccine should not be considered a rare potential adverse event. The incidence of many other chronic immunological diseases, including asthma, allergies, and immune mediated cancers, has risen rapidly and may also be linked to immunisation.

this was for an H. influenza type B vaccine. but this was like the first thing i pulled up, so it is not hard to do some research into this, IF you actually want to.

my opinion is simply if you are in an at risk group, the vaccine risk benefit reward probably leans to beneficial,
if you are under 40, maybe even 50 with no comorbidities, then there is possibly more risk than benefit for that person.

DEATHS WITH NO UNDERLYING CONDITIONS UNDERLYING MEDICAL CONDITIONS FOR COVID-19 CASES WHOSE DEATH HAS BEEN VERIFIED UNDERLYING MEDICAL CONDITIONS LABORATORY-CONFIRMED COVID-19 CASES Cardiovascular Disease 2,273 52.8% Chronic Liver Disease 149 3.5% Chronic Lung Disease 886 20.6% Chronic Renal Disease 833 19.4% Diabetes Mellitus 1,477 34.3% Obesity (BMI ≥ 30) 174 4.0% Immunocompromised Condition 590 13.7% Multiple Underlying Medical Conditions 2,055 47.8% None 69 1.6% Currently Pregnant 1 0.0% TOTAL NUMBER: 69 TOTAL COVID-19 DEATHS: 4,296 AGE IN YEARS Median: 78 Range: 44-98

theses numbers are from adph website. take away being 69 deaths of people with no underlying med issues. also for our state, no one under 44 has died.

T28w - Like I said. I’m not selling anything. I get the math. I understand the concerns in all directions.

I’m not just concerned with morbidity though. A buddy of mine that I hunt with, 42 yr old triathlete with no risk multipliers, got infected about six weeks ago. He came through without a great deal of discomfort, but is having some respiratory issues. He is not yet able to go for a short jog. Hopefully that doesn’t linger long.

20 yr old son of a sales rep that deals with us had a tougher case in early July. Again, no risk multipliers. He’s still incapable of getting back to jogging or biking.

Anecdotal, I know. But those cases and others are what have me concerned about family members with asthma.

I have no desire to have anyone hold you down and stick you with the vaccine. I just hope that enough people choose to get it and it’s effective and safe and this nonsense can end.

I’m not Chicken Little. I’m rational. I respect my wife’s experience, opinion and guidance and weigh what’s known of the numbers differently than how it seems you do. I hope I’m right.

I hope u r correct also.

But I also don’t think understood my response.

I don’t tell people what they have to do. I present RBAs and let them decide what’s best for them.

I just presented info that anyone could find.

I also never said if I was or was not going to get the vaccine.

My wife works in Family practice doctors office. Everyone was asked yesterday if they wanted the vaccine. After a few said no they were told it’s now mandatory to work there. More people are pissed about that than anything.

I know the above were the results of an extremely brief search, but your encouragement prompted me to look up that piece (if it was the same one, it was in '99 by two guys named Classen). It seems that there was some debate back then among experts as to whether the Finnish study showed an increase risk of diabetes from that vaccine. I didn't spend any more time to see if any more recent studies or comments had been made, and I'm not saying I know enough on the topic to say which side was right. But as you suggest, anyone looking through this thread should do their own research, seek expert advice - or ideally both.

By the way, the ADPH has some pretty good information, and I couldn't immediately find the same level of detail on the GA site.

yeah the adph dashboard has been well done.

as far as the study, like you said it was just what popped up that i searched for. i only posted it bc he asked about what kind of long term effects could be POSSIBLE. the paper may be junk, be it did give a list of possible long term issues.

another issue MAY be that we dont have much data, seemingly, on mRNA vaccines as this is very new. there are some good journal articles on them and why they have the potential to be SAFER than conjugate, live attenuated, or inactive virus vaccines.

no conspiracy theory here, just believe we have a hard time saying we dont know sometimes. but when its the truth, it should be said. i can only speak for myself but i would rather be told "we dont know, but this is the best we have and feel the risk is acceptable" VS "its safe" when they dont know. Honesty goes along way.

again i hope there are ZERO effects from the vaccine, we just dont know much past 6ish months.

If someone mentioned it I missed it but moderna’s track record of fda approved drugs and vaccines should put a lot of people’s mind at ease.

Just a dentist though not a real dr lol. The Hangover if anyone gets it.

My wife’s company she works for has over 300 nurses on payroll and 14 stated they wanted it when they were all asked. I thought that was interesting.
Dont you mean Pfizer? I thought Moderna was the company that had 9 of their last 10 offerings denied by the FDA.
