What did you do to the wood one??

That’s my favorite stock and it’s been on 5 different rifles. So it’s seen some shit haha.

The area near the butt pad might be what you’re referring to?

I split the wood when I was hastily installing those stupid ass spacers. If you order a wood one these days, you’ll be able to order to exact LOP you want and not need them.

It hasn’t skipped a beat in thousands and thousands of rounds so no issues other than looks.

They all get used for the same general purposes, along with the other guns I own/use. These are just the “rokslide” guns I have handy here in AZ. I have other rifles here and in other states that I frequently shoot in as well.

For these 4 guns in particular…

223 sees the bulk of the work and then my other rifles are used for long range practice/drills/challenges/trying new bullets and of course hunting and killing.

The 22 Creed and 6 Creed are so similar in function that having/needing both isn’t necessary. But I do love both of them and have two of each, mainly for trying different loads, not being down a gun when work is needed or I’m waiting on a barrel, etc. These two cartridges have seen probably more than half of my big game kills in the last 2 years (around 30 kills combined).

The 6.5 PRC I use for practice, long range shooting, hunting/killing and as a teaching aid for folks who think they shoot heavier recoiling cartridges as effectively as lower recoiling cartridges in sub 9 lb guns. (These guns are all right at or just under 9 lbs ready to hunt).

Having guns in an identical setup to a 223, 22 creed, 6 creed etc. makes for an eye opening realization for most mountain shooters. I also have a 7 PRC and 308 setup identical to these guns for the same general uses.

It’s a great way to show the “I get more margin for error on animals and in wind” folks to change their tune after just one morning of shooting.

I was very curious about the 6.5 PRC setup - this makes sense. I have a 6.5 PRC and 6 CM, very noticeable difference between the two recoil wise. And a 6.5 PRC is very mild in relative terms compared to what’s out there, especially when suppressed/braked. I can still spot most shots at 600 with the PRC, but it’s certainly not the same as the CM.

When teaching do you see a noticeable different between those two rifles for students making impacts and spotting shots?

I’ve never shot it, and have only ever seen pictures, but Forms tikka 595 master-sporter just has a certain presence to it. If tikka was still selling these, I’d buy one asap

They make the Sporter. Laminated stock. There are some .223s around.

Yep. With nearly all shooters, hit rates on vital size targets at range in the mountains go down with 6.5 PRC, 7PRC, and the 308 compared to the 22CM and 6CM in identical setup guns

The 6.5 PRC and 308 are still “manageable” no doubt but with heavy bullets they are right at most shooters “limit” for maintaining hit rate, spotting shots, and getting quick follow up hits.

I just wish it weighed about 2lb less. It's hitting the scales at right at 8lb as it sits (which seems awfully heavy for what it is. The T3x Swede behind it is, somehow, nearly a full pound lighter. Stockys VG stock, same scope, longer barrel....) but I'd be much, much happier if it was 6lb.

With all the knowledge gained from being part of Rokslide, and field experience, implementing these things, what would your rifle setup look like?
Stock or chassis? Scope (and mounts)? Cartidge? Barrel length? Suppresed/muzzle brake/bare?
223 trainer to go with it? Multiple rifle for different species, or just one rifle?

Curious to see where this goes!

Several custom, semi-custom, and factory rifles later… I would trade them all for a switch-barrel standard long bolt action in a McMillan Hunters Edge stock and a folding chassis for when circumstances call for it, with a Steiner H6Xi and Trijicon Accupoint, both in QD rings, and the following barrels:

35 Whelen AI 20” with Rugged Alaskan 360ti (I’d like to try north fork bullets)
.30-06 22” with TBAC Ultra5 (factory 178 ELDX or 180 core-lokt)
6mm Creedmoor 20” with TBAC Ultra7 (or maybe fast twist 25-06???)

Antelope to big bears with back-up .30-06 for everything.

But then again… I’m just a fella with too many guns and not enough time to hunt.

That's awesome! The primary thing that stops me from being all in on swfa is those stupid ridiculous foot tall turrets, LOL.

So what did you have to do to get it there? It looks like it's had some pretty severe surgery.
