Deer cartridges with minimal recoil

What would be considered a faster barrel twist for a .243, and who makes one? What would be considered the standard twist for the .243 and what range of bullets will the standard twist handle vs the faster twist? From reading some other threads, it seems like the 95 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip is a popular .243 deer load.

There are two easy, slam-dunk answers here ... .243 Win and 6mm Creedmoor.

If you're worried about getting a .24-cal rifle with a 1:8 or 1:7.5 twist for possible use of heavier bullets (a very good idea, IMHO), just get a 6mm Creedmoor. Go out and buy a box each of 108gr Hornady ELD-M, 103gr Hornady ELD-X. Add a box of 95gr Nosler Ballistic Tips if you want a lighter option with a bit more velocity, which isn't necessarily a bad thing when you're shooting inside of 300 yards.

Use whatever the rifle likes best and be happy. I would personally want to run the 108gr ELD-M in a 6mm Creedmoor, but I'd be fine with either of the other two for your purposes.

I've actually been leaning toward a Howa 1500 Super Deluxe Walnut, or even just their standard walnut. I prefer the looks and stock profile of the Howa much more than the Vanguard sporter. I know they are both based on the same Howa 1500 action. Are there any disadvantages to the Howa as compared to the Vanguard?

I also like the Browning X-bolts.

I hadn't read the thread to the end, so scratch the advice on getting a 6mm Creedmoor.

Since you have a .243 Win and will be running factory ammunition, don't forget to look at some loads like Winchester Deer Season XP 95gr, Winchester 95gr Ballistic Silvertip, Browning Max Point 95gr, Hornady Precision Hunter 90gr ELD-X, Hornady Superformance 95gr SST, Federal Fusion 95gr BTSP and Sierra Gamechanger 90gr TGK. All these are great deer medicine and if your rifle likes them, you'll like them, too.

My 6.5 CM at 7.2# does have a little kick to it. Not enough to bother me, but a young kid would probably feel it. Especially if it’s their first time shooting a centerfire cartridge.
