Done. Seems like quite a bit of capacity all puffed out but it sucks in fairly slim (I looped the side compression straps around themselves but an strap accross the front could always be added if I really see a need).

I didn't snap a photo but yes I does have a beavertail on it too. I'll likely build a haul sack for bringing in camp gear too just pondering sizing on that still.

For Dameon's question about being able to put a lid on if desired, yes using the loops I put on the pack and putting a repair buckle on (obviously clean up the front strap length if really using this configuration but here is a quick mockup):

That is an awesome looking pack with the lid on. Do you have a general idea on the capacity of it? Man I'm drooling over that thing.

Squared off the main body is 6.5x12x24 to the top seam. The height can be varied between ~21" to maybe 27 or 28". So 2000cuin ballpark not factoring in that the pack gets roundish when full which actually increases the volume versus the rectangular calculation. The front pockets definitely bring it over 2500cuin.

Fantastic job man! You have taken to sewing like a fish to water. You clearly have a knack for it. That is a very impressive build. Did you build those rear pods with a use in mind? Spotting scope or tripod maybe? Just curious. I know kifaru makes a similar design. They look cool either way.

I ordered all of my supplies for my tipi today. It's time to get that project going. September is coming!!!!

Thanks, its sorta snow balled as I go, haha. Yeah I made sure they were large enough for a nalgene bottle as a minimum, from there I figured they'd easily accommodate a variety of things (such as my tripod). The length was set by the pack length for the way I wanted to attach them. Not sure if an angled scope will fit in them but I suspect a straight one would, they are 4.5"w x 3"d. Similar designs are out there on a variety of pack makes, I just pick and choose things I'd like on my pizza and then try and pull it all together (and in this case mate it to a NICE frame with load shelf, etc).

Excellent, my elk plans this year will be calling for a shelter build as well, I've got some ideas down that I'll circle back around on after scouting the area this weekend.

Put the new bag in action on an overnight scouting trip, quite pleased with it. I will make an basic roll top stuff sack to place between the pack and frame to haul extra camp gear for a longer trip but this size handled a warm weather single night. I can fit stacked 1L nalgenes in the long pocket or one and some gear. Tripod and tent poles in the other in the photo. Overall I found them useful. I enjoyed the roll top w/o a lid.

Nice to dig stuff from the lower interior pockets and also if I had more smaller stuff in it (typical hunt daypack) vs my sleeping bag taking up half I think it will be useful to grab stuff out that has settled down to the bottom.

Chatter in the backpack forum today got me motivated and I made up a large haul bag (just a basic roll top) at 14"x8" rounded profile, height varies based on how much you roll it up but the straight sides start out 38". Obviously pack all heavy stuff (or perhaps everything depending on how much you're hauling) in the haul bag to keep stuff out of the main bag or only light stuff in the main bag to avoid throwing the center of gravity to the rear. Obviously a single large bag is ideal if you're only carrying big stuff around, but this is my answer to wanting overload capacity on a daypack+ to haul in a camp and then drop it and then not have a super cinched or floppy pack I'm using for day use. This won't be my answer to all situations but its just one more option at hand.

Might recreate this main pack in highlander soon as well, depends how soon my fabric for a shelter shows up...

1) Haul sack next to pack. 2) Haul and main pack both stuffed out. 3) Haul bag stuffed with empty main pack.

Around a yard, can't recall off hand if it would fit into a 36"x60" piece or not though, sometimes the cut list on projects uses up more linear yardage but leaves behind some bigger scraps that seem to generally get used up on other stuff over time. My cut list isn't necessarily optimized to try and wring out the most out of the fabric, I was just making a pack design that I wanted.
