You didn't mention my momma so I'm not offended.....

Nah, I get the X thing. I've got buddies running fixed 36's (aka Hubble Telescopes) on rimfires. They have their place. On hunting rigs I like a lot of light and a lot of eye relief, especially on a thumper. 6x42 does it all for me. 10x SWFA is the highest I've got and I find it handy dandy for staying on target to spot missed wind calls or watch clays come to pieces.

Basically if I can see 1/2 MOA targets I'm in a good spot. Makes clays look like a basketball. Plus when guys shoot my shit they give up quick because they cant see. Which means more ammo for me.

Then there's my triggers which are often confusing because dudes think the safety is still on. That M70 had more creep than the Rocky Horror Picture show and almost takes two fingers.

Shortknocker life at 500 yards max gets me in plenty of trouble.

my son-in-law purchased a LAW 300 Win Mag at SW for $1699 - very nice rifle - so far has less than a box of Nosler AB 180's through it and one dead cow to it's credit - I like what they are doing
Is the Leica scope made by Leica ? they do second to none binoculars

Yes it is the same company. Their rifle scopes are top shelf also.

I know 215 and 230's kick ass. Fact is a lot of guys are shooting low BC bullets in their tikkas. My point yo other person was my bullet bucks wind. Obviously there are some high BC 30 cal bullets as well

Just busting your chops. That's actually why I got a custom (also Rbros) built. I couldn't seat the bullets I wanted due to magazine restrictions, and couldn't run things to velocities I wanted due to barrel lengths. Factory twist rate also made me pull my hair out once or twice.

There is a big difference at 500+ yards One you are able to make a precise shot right where you want. The other you are going to hit somewhere on or around the vitals. You will be fine with lower power at closer ranges but to make a clean DRT kill at long range you need to be able to to thread the needle.

With the higher power magnification you can hold a minute of wind. I don't see this happening with a reticle that is covering the whole vital area. I was always taught to aim small miss small. If you pick a spot on an animal for a reference point like and ruffled up section of fur that is small in size right being the shoulder aim for that. You can't see that at longer yardages with lower magnification.

Back to custom rifles. I've been shooting a Tikka T3 Super lite in 308 and a T3 Lite stainless in 7mm-08 lately. One has a SWFA fixed 6x and the other a SWFA 3-9HD. These damn rifles are just downright scary accurate and have really made me question if I will ever get a custom built again. They are shooting half MOA at 100 yards and I got each one for $600 and one for $650.

I hear a ton of good things about the accuracy of the SWFA scopes. Not so much the glass, but built like a tank and accurate as any out there.

Totally agree. We had 4 guys in our hunting camp this year and all of them had tikka t3's. I load for all of them and I was literally laughing at load development as I was walking up to the targets. I have a few customs and they sat in the gun room while the tikka was in the field shooting animals. Amazing hunting rifle.

T3 load development means "pointy end forward." There are some gripes amongst the nay sayers and it sounds just like the Glock vs 1911 chat from the 80's. I don't think it'll be long before flush mounted mags are an option. Company in Austraila is making some pretty serious mags. I'm convinced that a metal mag would allow thinner sidewalls where the rounds could sit slightly staggered keeping the capacity the same.

I don't care what anyone says and have heard all the "bad" things. A fella can litterly pick one up, scope it, grab a box of whatever ammo he likes, zero the thing and have enough left over to hunt with.

One box wonders. It does not get any easier.

I love it ...... "low BC bullets in their Tikkas" ... yuk yuk I do quite well shooting 200 grain Accubonds, I'm sure you'll have some sarcastic rhetort to this but I killed 4 elk in 2014, 4 elk in 2015 and 2 this past season ranging from 180 yds to 584 yards while HUNTING elk - all one shot kills and all very dramatic DRT shots - there's a lot more to killing elk than "high BC bullets" .... like stalks and fast pulse rates for 2

Exactly. My grandpa killed more animals than most of us could ever dream of with a savage 99 308 with a 150 grain power point. Shot placement is key. Though he rarely took a shot farther than 150 yards.

I do shoot a 215 berger but it's because of the style of hunting I do. You don't have to use it to kill elk. I just choose to shoot long range so that's why I am trying to use the best bullet for that situation.

For you to personally kill 10 elk in 3 years all rifle is very impressive. Especially with all one shot and drop kills.

completely understood - the SAD fact is that there are less and less opportunities to have a "relaxed" shot at 150 yds any longer but the HUNT is still my main motive for being "there" - "scopes" ... I've always been a steadfast Leupold user and may always be, I've used all of their top end stuff for years (exception is their newer tactical stuff, too heavy in weight and on my wallet) I also used to average 10,000 rounds over PD towns yearly - I tried 6.5 x 20's and even the boosted versions Premier Reticle used to do, ended up with all 12x fixed on everything, same goes with hunting scopes, 3.5 x 10 x 40mm for all, used 6 x 42's for a long long time but then relented - I have a brand new VX3i 4.5 x 14 x 40mm on my '06 AI that's coming off as soon as the 3.5 x 10 VX3i arrives, but that's all "just me" and my eyes are as different as the next guy's

I can tell the differences between ANY bullet and BC. Says so right on the box.
