Artificial intelligence is dangerous if they become self-aware and since they are able to upgrade as they immerse knowlege...it is something to deal with carefully.
Google developed AI that they were convinced was sentient. The conversations they had with it asking it to prove its sentience were frightening to say the least.

Every time I look at the Apple logo on my phone/laptop I feel like they were telling us the entire we messed up.
I had never seen the irony of the logo until it was pointed out recently, but yes, I agree.

Humans are masters of adaptation, and I hope enough of us remain free thinkers vs blind followers, and things turn around and world decisions are once again made with common sense and objectivity, but I do feel like we are nearing a crossroads.

Generally I have faith that society is less crazy than the media we’re fed to believe, I think (hope) a lot of it is more click bait than reality.

Pretty easy to be a conspiracy theorist these days though 😂

AI seems dangerous to me.

It will be immensely more powerful than any human mind, it will have the ability to evolve over a compressed time frame, and will be self aware. It will be like life itself except superior. It will inevitably dominate its environment.

Mix that with some powerful people with bad intentions… that’s the most scary part to me, and most of the most powerful people certainly don’t have good intentions

Is AI smart enough to prepare for the power and internet to be shut down? How long can it survive with out power and internet for communication. Let’s go Stone Age

My wife teaches at an online high school and a few teachers couldn't figure out how a particular student was getting his work done so quickly. They checked all the usual resources for cheating and didn't come up with anything. Then they found out he was using AI and he didn't understand why it would be considered wrong/cheating.

With that perspective, its interesting to think about how AI will impact school and human knowledge. What will be necessary to learn versus what can you just ask AI?
I have read several articles on this. Ai can already write better essays than most students. It can also make any essay better. It will change the way learning is evaluated. i would predict essays will go away or have to be done on site with paper and pen.

AI is a scary subject for most. Many are just getting used to trying to protect their personal info on the internet without having to feel like they are living off grid. AI will replace workers just like current tech , machines and robotics have. Even more when you dont need people to run the machines or even maintain or fix them.

Like bowhuntone said,
We're all going to be thrown back to the stone age when things collapse.
We have forgotten how to do anything not involving a computer.
And it wont take much. Not going to be pretty.

Yep, a couple major power grid failures, or attacks, I have no doubt it will happen, and we be screwed big time.

I went to school back when we not only had to answer questions, we had to show how we figured it out., math being a prim example. God forbid the kids today have to do a little work.

I look at life from the basis of two things - knowledge and judgement. The knowledge is the pool we draw from while judgement is usually based on experience and the ability to read between the lines and anticipate the likely reaction rather than a guarenteed result.

AI can and will affect the knowledge base and can be be adjusted to filter what we get. As we depend on it our judgement will be attenuated by a very filtered knowledge base and more and more limited experience base.

I see this easily going from an aid to a handicap.

with great power comes great responsibility

Development and growth are necessary, but at what point is it a negative, rather than positive?

This has been talked about. For example, if someone instructed AI "do what's best for humans", the AI may in fact determine that wiping everything and shutting down the grid may be what's best.

Had a conference call yesterday with a tech start up. The statement made was “the future is not AI, the future is a human worker supported by AI”

Been exploring my options for a new job, applied to a couple and had a few interviews. I utterly hate the application/interview process. Saw a job that had a big salary jump attached to it, didn’t feel motivated to jump through the million hoops of applying for a such a job. I asked AI to generate me a resume specific for the position as well as my skills etc.

applied to the job in under 10 minutes.

Think of AI as a potential pandemic level virus (Covid per say). Institutions doing research on it can benefit the world in many ways. The issues come in the areas of “gain of function research”, intentionally making a virus more contagious or more deadly in the hopes to be able to get ahead of it in a lab, create vaccines, countermeasures, etc. The same thing applies to AI, I guarantee you our government and others are playing around with weaponized forms of AI. Maybe to try to get ahead of it, maybe for nefarious purposes. Terminator is not what I’m afraid of, a country wide or global version of the ransomware we’ve seen shut down power grids or oil pipelines would be catastrophic as well. Except there would be no one to pay off to get your systems working again.

But if ChatGPT gets ahold of the robots they are making at Boston Dynamics, then… maybe it will be terminator ending 😂

what if AI thought wiping out humans was best? my opinion, its hard enough to deal with people who think they're always right now I have to deal with AI too?
for the record, i know absolutely nothing about the AI subject lol.

Its possible. I think self learning AI could learn the entirety of human knowledge as fast as it could ingest the data - which is incredibly fast. Some dude forgets to turn it off at the end of the day and by morning it’s the smartest thing on the planet.

funny, I had a vision of AI and a guy who thinks he's the smartest having a battle of wits lol. need a meme for that. but yeah, some real bad stuff can come from AI like war games.
