I would take a picture of it and post it all over social media with its whereabouts and tag the local game warden in it and see who wins the dumbass of the month award.
Someone stole a shed antler that a guy in my group found out of one of our tents last year. Thousands of dollars of stuff laying around and they take a antler. People have gone bat shit crazy over horns anymore.

What if youre out turkey hunting april 29th, no elk or deer in sight, but its somewhat of a popular area and you stumble upon a nice set. Are you stashing them, leaving them be, or taking them then?

I would have picked it up for sure. Prior to today I didn't realize places actually had "shed seasons". We don't have seasons like that around here. Seems strange.

From now on I guess I will have to look up shed laws. Do you guys also have walking stick seasons or cool looking rock seasons?

This is exactly why I think the May 1 date is dumb!!! Make it legal to pick them up on the Turkey opener with a valid Turkey tag. Example, I was Turkey hunting last weekend, I’m in some gnarly country walking a ridge line, my eyes happened to see a a small 6er, I kept it moving, but I’m already back there causing a racket yelping to no avail… just a silly rule, also the area I frequent has had trucks with elk stickers all over them in the wintering areas since mid March… I’m sure they were just out walking their dogs

I would also argue there is a certain size that would cause guys to stray from the straight and narrow… hell no would I risk it over rags or dinks, but I would love to know how many guys are driving past a 380+ set of bull antlers or 200+ inch buck antlers, I know I know thems the rules, but let’s hear it holy rollers, who is driving past that?

Lighten up there, we are talking hypothetically here, no one broke the law, this isn’t minority report (at least not yet) . I guess the same reason that guys go nuts about bone during season? Or go nuts about hunting in general? I guess some people just have a problem.

I also think this particular rule is interesting. Poaching is black and white, this rule which I am all for protecting wintering animals is great but does nothing to actually protect them. Now if we shut down 100% of recreational use in wintering zones till May now we are talking

Still moving on as the punishment is only going to go up based on the size of the antler. Not worth it.

To be honest I’m not interested in getting in trouble so I’m not sure what the punishment even is? But I had heard that it only affected hunters, so rec users basically have no punishment coming

Generally, these types of punishments have fines and loss of privileges. Do you have an example of a "non hunter" getting off while a "hunter" got punished? Or is that one of those coffee shop conspiracies?

I guess one could argue that if a non hunter picked one up and the punishment was loss of hunting privileges, that there wasn't a punishment.

I should use better verbiage, you are right. It says no picking up or locating antlers west of 25 until May 1. In that aspect it is black and white. But in situation described, you are not harming any animals, it has been detached from them and they aren’t around. 2 if you are wealthy enough to have land you can pick them up whenever. 3. How is it helping wintering animals if they are getting disturbed by, hikers, bikers, snowshoers, X county skiers, snowmobiles winter camping, bird watchers, coyote hunters, Turkey hunters, ect…? It is classic gov over reach. I’m big on following rules, even self reported killing a hen Turkey before, but this rule seems frivolous and extremely hard to enforce

I really just don’t give a shit about a shed antler laying on the ground, have no idea why people are so crazy about them and no idea why you would want to clutter your home and life with a collection of random sheds.
