Way I look at it, either carry or don’t. Never understood people carrying sometimes and not others. Thats some high stakes gambling. If you only carry when you think you are entering a particularity sketchy situation, then why are you going there in the first place?

It's not gambling at all. Extremely low probability you will ever need it.

I rarely carry. I can't take it into work. I don't want to leave a gun in my truck. That leaves few opportunities.

It’s not gambling at all,your correct and your gambling more by carrying it a lot of instances.
You walk up on an issue and try and be a hero or pull it because you panic is way more a possibility.
I get it for sure,I have been in many cities were you couldn’t pay me to live.I wouldn’t move to Chicago for 5000000 a year.
Lifes an odds game and anytime you walk in the woods you have a chance to have a run in with a redneck with a weapon,and while bow hunting i still dont carry most of the time.
Im going to Dallas this weekend with family and it’s 5 hrs,i will have my p365 and two mags,light,Noco jumb box,air compressor,blankets and spare water!

I agree .cant see leaving gun in truck and it really does leave few opportunies . Would rather carry more but aint happening with work

Im sure some of you guys that carry 100% feel "naked" without a weapon . Like getting used to wearing a seatbelt or treestand safety harness

Never have cuz when I worked every construction job now days so no firearms on job sites and that means nothing in your car.
mostly worked nuclear outages the last few years before I retired and you can’t even have a bullet in your vehicle.

Unless I’m going through metal detectors or getting searched I have a pistol on me. I’m not a hero but also not interested in being a victim. I’d be careful with inconsistent carry and that mindset.

That’s not the main reason not to carry but a good reason just to not have them out.
My kids are not the issue,you can’t control other kids and don’t kid yourself and think it will never happen.
I dont need to loss my worth because some teen decided to touch my gun.I also don’t leave money laying out.I dont think they would steal it but why give the temptation .

I agree with those sentiments, except when you are carrying a gun it is not laying out. It is on your person and should be totally in your control. By carrying I dont mean wedged between a driver seat and the console. I mean on a belt, inside pants, in a good holster with retention. I personally feel that a gun that is on my person is safer than one stored in my house somewhere if theres kids around.

Low odds but high stakes my man. Im not really saying that choosing not to carry at all is gambling. Although one could argue that it is. Im mainly referring to the mindset of “Ill carry today because im in X location, but not tomorrow because im only going to be in Y location”. If you do feel the need to carry, but are trying to play the odds on the time and place you may need it, that is absolutely gambling.

If not, I’d just conceal carry. Done correctly, no one should ever know.

Was looking at conceal carry . Those of you that carry how often do you actually have a weapon on you ? I look at day to day activities and I'm at work most of the time. Cannot have weapon at work . Curious if many guys can carry at your place of employment ? Otherwise if leaving work to run errands probably wouldnt have it then . The reality is, would mainly carry weekends if out and about or traveling and thats it.

I can't have it at work, can't even have it in my vehicle in the parking lot. So I only carry after I've been home. As a rule, if I'm out and about with my family I'm carrying. Just feels like an obligation.

Of note, I live in a pretty safe community. But in recent memory I can recall a shooting at Costco, and just a few weeks ago a guy got shot/killed in the parking lot at McDonald's. When we moved into the neighborhood a burglar stalked a guy down the street, broke into the basement, there was a scuffle and the burglar killed the old man and his adult son.

Yep. Crazies are everywhere.
I live out in the sticks and there was a guy attacked by a crazy with a knife at the local general store a couple years ago.

This conversation hits on similar issues raised with the question of “do you carry a side arm while bow hunting?” I know some states have regs against it, so for those I get it. At the end of the day, some people are just really crappy people with zero good intentions no matter if it’s in town, a big city or deep in the back country, just watch the local news wherever you are or wherever you travel. I’m not fear mongering but I know people personally (myself included) who have had horrible things happen to them or witnessed it in very close proximity. Oh, and while hiking, scouting, and hunting, I’ve had a couple of run-ins with some really shady sketchy people. I worry about them more than bears, mountain lions, wolves, or whatever. Some people have no self respect, much less any respect for authority, laws, human life, etc., and I’m not wanting to end up a victim. That said I will avoid any altercation at all costs, because we all know what can happen in civil court with a liberal judge.
