CPW plans for the new wolves to be captured on tribal lands in eastern Washington during the capture season from December 2024 – March 2025.

They found a way to get rid of a few to someone dumb enough to take them. Genius on their part for finding a way to reduce their numbers.

Agreed. HUC 10 level watersheds typically range from 62 to 390 square miles. So one wolf can get recorded one time in a 390 square mile area and it's going to be added to the map.

As I understand it, the language is written into law with the reintroduction that there will never be a wolf hunt in CO.

The groups behind this ballot box initiative are using CO as a testing ground to play with legal language that will then get implemented in other states/nationally. They’re essentially throwing the spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks. The end of this video touches on it…the podcast goes in for the deep dive. Dan Gates with Coloradans for Responsible Wildlife Management is the tip of the spear, and really the only organization that’s fighting this stuff and pushing back where it matters. This is the most important hunting related information you’ll listen to. Originally I thought this was a regional issue. I’m now convinced that this legitimately COULD BE is the beginning of the end for big game hunting unless we get involved. It’s our fight to lose, and we’re about to find out what sportsmen are made of in the next 5-10 years. Time to put our time/money where our mouth is.

Last week on my way home from work, driving through Hotchkiss there were 6 identical CPW vehicles parked at the burger joint right off the highway. I did not see any cages etc. in any of them. But I just found the whole thing suspicious... That many fleet vehicles all together in the middle of the week, my suspicion is they were possibly scouting out release spots. I've lived around here my entire life and drive that road every day and have never seen more than 1 CPW vehicle at a time, let alone a whole fleet of matching vehicles.

Supposedly, according to CPW and numerous press releases, no more wolves will be released until Dec 2024 - March 2025. Seems CPW knows they have work to do to regain "trust" with the western slope.

To be clear, I don't fault them, they are being forced to do this against their own scientific conclusions. The people pulling the strings are at fault for the rushed release, the selection of depredating wolves, the ballot measure in the first place etc... etc...

Any attempts to stem the anti-hunting tide with time and $$ and in the courts has a foregone conclusion.
It has for decades.
Are you implying we never did those things before? That we didn't write our so-called representatives? Didn't write enough letters to the editor? Didn't try to educate the younger generations? We didn't spend enough time? Not enough money? Not enough appeals to the court? Didn't vote hard enough? Seriously?

Action is the only possible means.
And what action? I expect there are many ways. Get creative.

Maybe if all the sportsmen decided to go hiking en mass in the areas the wolves are now roaming, armed of course for protection from wild animals and meth heads, a wolf or two might just happen to get copper poisoning. Just the threat of that possibility could have some impact on the perpetrators. Or just followed and surrounded the employees (who are begrudgingly just doing their jobs ) in massive convoys of pickups making their job so miserable they decide to call in sick with covid. Or quit. I don't know the best way but I do know doing the same thing expecting different results is foolish. Better to just spend your time and money on your wife and kids as to throw it away.

Not enough of us did those things. Not enough people got involved. The ballot initiative in CO was EXTREMELY close. All it would have taken to win was a few more sportsmen to be engaged. It sounds like you’ve been around a while, and have been heavily involved. You’re in the minority. Most sportsmen do NOTHING besides buy tags.

What I’m saying is, there’s now an organization that’s actually fighting WHERE AND HOW it counts. The letters to representatives clearly haven’t been enough. Please give the podcast a listen. If you come away thinking that there’s no hope, then throw in the towel. I’m not ready to do that yet. I want my kids to be able to hunt, and they’re 2 years old and 1 month old. So we’ve got some work to do!

P.S. On the note of helping out the wife and kids…I’m not ready to go to prison for illegally killing a wolf. If you watched the release video, you’ll see a lot of collars. But if you think a very large armed hike is the solution, go for it! Start organizing it! I’d bet there’s a lot of us who would be on board. It would likely have to be a reoccurring event, since the supply of said “wild animals, meth heads and occasion wolves” is pretty high.

Jake, I do have hope and am not throwing in the towel. I'd not post here if that were the case.
I just don't believe continuing to play by others' rules in rigged games.
