Look, I'm just posting the facts....without complaining I might add.

The fact is non resident hunters encounter many negative comments from residents when hunting in the different western states, essentially "Non residents go home"....I've seen it many times. If non residents did actually boycott buying licenses and tags in the different western states.....those F&G Depts would be broke.

Now we all know that's ^ not going to happen...so no reason to get but hurt about it...

Not cherry picking, just saying you picked an animal that does not have many NR tags, but has a ridiculously high tag price. Elk and even deer have a major disparity in price when looking at NR/R. I'm really not disagreeing with you.

Colorado is no doubt screwed up in a lot of ways... But correct me if I'm wrong, don't all other western states charge nearly ten times the price for non resident licenses?

Take Elk as an example as it is the most common 'Western' species that folks like to come out for (numbers exclude mandatory hunting licenses which cost between $50 and $160 per state)

AZ: R = 148, NR = 665 - 4.5X
CO: R = 55, NR = 662 - 12X
ID: R = 36, NR = 416 - 11.6X (increasing next year)
MT: R = 20 , NR = 885 - 44.25X
NM: R = 90, NR = 773 - 8.6X
NV: R = 120, NR = 1200 - 10X
OR: R = 49, NR = 588 - 12X
UT: R = 50, NR = 393 - 7.9
WA: R = 50, NR = 497 - 10X
WY: R = 57, NR = 692 - 12.1X

CO ends up basically in the middle of the pack. Only three of 10 western states have less than a 10X multiple.

All of the states are directionally similar. Montana being an outlier one way and AZ being an outlier the other way.

Excellent post! This thought always comes to mind when I hear people complaining about out of state hunters. We need their revenue so that our resident tag prices don't go through the roof. When you are hunting in your home state you should have a significant advantage of being able to scout multiple areas thoroughly. Learn the areas that elk go to when pressured. It's not always just 'down valley on the private'. Use your geographic knowledge to your advantage!
