Colorado Corner Crossing Legislation - HB23-1066

You’d need a pretty substantial improvement to public land to allow a wheelchair bound individual to cross a 54” tall fenced corner without touching the private land or fence.
Where did they get 54”? Fence posts are commonly 8’ and are often placed with 3’ in the ground leaving 5’ of exposed post.
Maybe Colorado folks do fence differently.

I think it’s a good start, but could use some improvement.
Probably easier to first get it through, and then fight to add disabled access after general access is established.

Where are you from? Most t-posts are 6' around here. Crossing a 5' tall barbed wire fence would be tough.

The 48" wide/54" tall language sounds like something ADA related.

While well intended, that seems pretty asinine. The vast majority of those types of corners will never see a disabled attempt to cross them.

Maybe that's the key to passing this though. Se loophole about denying equal access...

SW Washington.
I’ve never built a corner, H brace, gate, ect.. with a T-post. We use wood posts for that. I’d expect a wood post at a corner.

Sounds like range fence is built with 6.5’ posts set 2.5’ into the ground out there.

I used to work for a company that made T-posts many years ago. FWIW, best sellers were 6', with 5.5 and 6.5 after that. 8' posts were made rarely, although we still made them.

I'm talking about a wooden post driver for woven fence. Them t-posts are just for where you can't get a real post in the ground.

6' only gives you less than 18" in the ground if you are using wire that's 47-49" tall, especially if using a barb or hot wire over top.

I generally just get a 5.5 foot if putting in t-posts, cause I generally am drilling a hole in rock to put them in, and they don't need to go deep in limestone.

Sounds like indefinitely postponed. I also see on the website the term "failed" applied to the bill. Pay attention to those senators who shot this down. https://leg.colorado.gov/content/8c0d617a6a761491872589a8006b1c3e-hb23-1066-1-activity-vote-summary
Check out this article, where RMEF and others are slammed for not showing up to speak on behalf of the bill, while numerous private land/rancher/farmer type orgs showed up.

In construction a 36 inch door is ADA compliant.
True, but a standard wheelchair will go through a 2'8" (32") door. Gotta watch your fingers, but it will fit. Ask me how I know. LOL!
Due to injuries, every door in my home is 3-0×6-8 except one.
