Day 1 - Great competition as I actually felt nervous this morning and should have let down when shooting. I punched the trigger as soon as my pin got close to the spot, no float or smooth pull. Sunny, calm, 5 degrees celsius.
IMG_0247.JPG

Day 2 - Felt pretty good today, slight breeze, sunny 2 degrees celsius
IMG_0253.JPG

Day 3 - Overcast calm 5 degrees shot felt good
IMG_0257.JPG

Day 4
Sunny with a decent tailwind. WHAT HAPPENED? shot felt great I expected to walk up to the target and see a great hit. I wanted so bad to shoot more to figure out what happened.

Day 5 - I got some work to do

MER 50yds. Shooting a Hoyt Helix, Easton Axis with a 100gr Iron Will wide. Nock2it release

EF6A6180-2B59-43E9-AA74-2D9E2FBD0F92.jpeg

Day 1. 55* no wind.
Aim point was the cut out above the duct tape. My first shot with these broadheads..but that is not a good excuse for me rushing the shot.

2AAC4A78-A4D0-4E24-9975-FB806E226181.jpeg

Day 2, a little different conditions than yesterday. 25* snowing hard and blowing 10-15mph. Shot felt great, was aiming for the duct tape as I could not make out any other features on the target.

63F1D123-5E4E-4B3D-B00F-5E9A294EA716.jpeg

day 3. 20* blowing out of the west around 15mph (left to right facing the target), light snow

3360FC1E-D1A6-42C8-9B6F-59414605E184.jpeg
My orange aiming dots in the cut out section kept getting blown off, aimed instead at the duct tape, which is still vital area sized for deer. Shot felt really good..
40BC1273-1B42-4304-BE51-0F6ED6CF2600.jpeg

day 4. 35* slight breeze. I thought the shot was good but ultimately realized my bonehead move by aiming for a small cutout at the top of the target 🙄. Lesson learned, I guess it was still vitals if that counts for anything 🤦‍♂️
D749ED54-C67A-45A5-AAEB-76C9CED4019C.jpeg

day 5. 35* slight breeze left to right. Slowed down my shot and just concentrated and pulling through the shot.

Size reference (assuming deer heart size)

overall it looks like I need some more range time to be effective at 50yds on a deer, and hopefully antelope, this year.

I don't post much on here but look forward to this challenge the past few years. This one will probably be humbling as I haven't shot as much as I should. Anyways that's the whole point of this right? I will be shooting a Rampart Legacy by Poison Dart Bows. 60" recurve 54# at 28" Blackeagle traditional instinct arrow, Cutthroat broadhead, and my own hand cut turkey feather fletching. I will be shooting at 16 yards.

First shot: 16 yds. Sunny no wind. Funny because I normally pull my shots to the left. Not the greatest shot, but exactly why I shoot something like the cutthroats.
6e7b9674ede15527c871655b52d83761.jpg

Day 2: no excuses, other than hurrying my shot, and not getting to full draw.

44e26287dbff9ee436bd482d62cc5bff.jpg

Day 3: strong right to left wind, but really I let target panic take over.
f0afbb3e1ec3e409f8e14c1770af7e18.jpg

Day 4: Absolutely falling apart and realizing just how bad I can get when I don't make time to practice everyday.
9b55082550b49907010ed500db638182.jpg

Day 5: day 4 pissed me off, and I stewed over it all day. Used that anger to help me really concentrate on my form and pull together a decent shot to end this thing. Looking forward to lots of practice each day now.

I’m in! 50 yards, smaller circle is 6 inches. Shot with 30 pounds in the Kifaru.
Elite Ritual 35-73lbs/31 inches
ABB Platinum strings
MBG Ascent Verdict 3 pin
Wickstick stabs 10 front/6 back
Tight spot with 4 arrows in it
260 spine Easton Hexx
75gr brass
125 gr field point
3 fletch 3.0 Fusion X-II helical

F559546C-2F80-4B7E-AC73-0780E05DD473.jpeg
Day2- wind last night blew the paper plate to god-knows-where, so I’ll be using the yellow as my target zone, still 6 inches. Target belongs to a friend, he shot a whole bunch yesterday after I left.
C842242B-ECFE-4936-B1B7-BEDF2E210FA7.jpeg
Day 3, sunny, 75 degrees, 10-20mph right to left wind at full value. Pins were floating more than usual, over compensated and shanked it right.

Day 4: wind was gusty but I waited for it to settle down. Shot broke perfectly. Couldn’t ask for a better comeback from the previous shot.

Day 5: 20-25 gusting winds, managed to get it together and pull it off.

Not gonna lie...I felt some nerves on this shot! MER is 50yds, I taped an 8”x8” (inside of tape) square on my target. No marks inside the square so you’ll see one hole for every day :).

Setup is a 72lb @ 31” prime centergy hybrid. Hamskea hybrid hunter rest, black gold ascent 5 pin sight (.10 pins), crossover front stabilizer, bee stinger micro hex side bar, hamskea peep. Arrow is a Victory VAP 250 elite w/ 50gr Day Six centric outsert and an added internal Easton Hit aluminum insert (20gr about). Used a sevr 1.5 125gr broadhead. 4 fletch AAE promax vanes. Total arrow weight is 510gr. Release is a Nock On Silverback. Also wearing my marsupial chest pack to keep it realistic.

Day 1: 70F and 10-15mph right to left winds at my house in Santa Fe today. Shot felt really good, but I should have compensated for some wind. Hit about 3” left.
d66581e0615d5b507702f44cc1d34f67.jpg

Day 2: Partly cloudy and about 50F. 10 mph winds right to left. Shot felt a little rushed today but I was still in the 8” square which is good! 2.5” low and right.
8356b89e4b82ecd3955c790187d3061d.jpg

Day 3: clear and coldest day yet, 35F. 10mph right to left winds. 3.25” left and 1.25” low.
12f1499102cc73fe886de0dd46a0f190.jpg

Day 4: I decided to go out first thing this morning at 7am to switch it up. 24F but zero wind. Shot went off fast, wish I would have concentrated a bit more before letting off the safety. Still in the vitals though, 2.5” right 2” high.
0a3299c275cc34971c6c4f324a273f39.jpg

Day 5: Definitely didn’t wanna screw up this shot on the last day! Winds were about 25mph today, worst day yet for wind. Took about 20 minutes of waiting until my draw lines up with a dead spot in the wind. Was able to get it off and felt good. 2” right and 1.5” low. Cold bow challenge complete!

Another First Timer here. Setting my MER at 50 Yards. My goal is to shoot in the most difficult conditions I can find during the challenge and still finish on time. Exception...Day #1... don't want to miss out waiting for wind, rain/snow, etc...

Bow: Mathews VXR 31.5 (77# 29.5")IMG_3108.jpeg
Spot Hog Sight
Ripcord Rest
Doinker and Mathews Stabilizers
Gas Strings
Scott Little Goose Release
VAP .166 Elite 250 Arrows (30" with 4 AAE Max Stealth Vanes and Wrap, 25gr Iron Will Collar and 25gr Iron Will Deep Six insert, S125gr Iron Will Broadhead, 525gr total arrow weight moving at 270fps)IMG_3261.jpeg
IMG_3263.jpeg

MER 50yards
Shot #1 left, no wind, didn't use proper back tension.IMG_3258.jpeg

Well Day 2 did not disappoint. A little snow and wind for shot #2. IMG_0693.jpeg
Brought the left in a bit, back tension was better, but I hit my Jacket like a newb... Bow was certainly cold, left it out overnight!
IMG_3284.jpeg
Shot #3 left the normal group but still looking good. I was really thinking a 50 yard MER was going to be more difficult. Guess the new arrow setup, bow and tune is working out!!!
IMG_3288.jpeg
Shot #4 still in the same group. Hoping #5 center punches them all!
IMG_3300.jpeg
WELP Shot# 5 really screwed up the group, held way too long waiting for wind to die down. Still on the plate though!

Max effective range is 60 yards for this one.

I'll be shooting at my Rinehart Woodlands block which is about 14"x14".

I'll be shooting a 125 grain QAD Exodus swept broadhead. My equipment setup is as follows:

Mathews Halon 32-6 @ 70lbs
Goldtip Velocity XT 340, 50 grain inserts, 125 grain broadheads, 4 fletch
Axcel Accuhunter single pin sight
Vapor Trail Limb Driver Rest
Tight Spot 5 arrow quiver
Carter Too Simple 3 finger release

IMG_0652.jpeg
Day 1-steady wind from right to left, approximately 10mph.

47D7AB0C-3370-4F31-8E67-FECFEB15CB3B.jpeg
Day 2, wind was gusting real hard from right to left. I had a hard time keeping my bow steady. Not a shot I would have taken at an animal given the weather conditions.

28838394-EE6E-4304-B72C-4595B5357F0D.jpeg
Day 3, it’s becoming increasingly clear that I need to spend more time shooting. Good things it’s only the beginning of April. No excuses for this shot.

1DB5A211-1373-4BAF-8901-123883F30CA4.jpeg
Day 4-can’t wait for this to be over. Time to start shooting regularly again and check my tuning. Not sure what my deal is.

1C156B47-EA37-4CA0-9C6E-9FCFCC7AF03D.jpeg
Day 5. Was hoping to pull it together on the last day, didn’t happen.

Thanks for getting this together Robbie and to all the sponsors. Happy to have a chance.

Whats up!!
Built this setup returning last January from deployment. Had a 10 year old bow since then, so it was a nice upgrade haha

-2018 Hoyt RX1
-Trophy Taker Drop away rest
-Bee Stinger 10” stabilizer
-Black Gold Verdict ascent
-Tight spot quiver
-Black Eagle Spartan 300 arrows w/ AAE max fletch vanes at 2 deg offset
-Day Six Evo broadheads
-My father’s old fletch hunter release fixed up with 2” webbing and pull sinch as the wrist strap (still waiting to upgrade this one when funds become available ha)

Going to see if I can pull off 70 yards for my MER!
Hopefully going after mule deer this year so we will say the white center ring will be my vital zone.
EA0D8417-6A1E-43CF-B11D-64D658969D5A.jpeg
Day 1:
A little tail wind but nothing too crazy
(picture deleted due to only allowing 10 attachments - please let me know if you need them back somehow)

Day 2:
3-4 mph gusts right to left, punched the trigger a bit on this one...not the best vitals shot but i think the blade cut the white lines so ill take it lol
(picture deleted due to only allowing 10 attachments - please let me know if you need them back somehow)

Day 3:
Overcast and a little chilly, wind at my back. I'm starting to think my bow is shooting left a little...
Day 3.JPG

Day 4:
Slight change of weather...below freezing and snow haha. Dropped it left again...pretty sure i need to move my sight and I think I need to add some weight to my stabilizer, I've noticed my pin jumps around a lot more than it should.
Day 4.JPG

Ok so I took a day off, put my Hoyt down and picked up my Archery Research for opening morning of turkey season here in NM. 20 yard shot for my first ever turkey with NAP Gobbler Getter Broadheads and on public land too! (Still only took 1 shot and with a different bow haha, please don’t DQ me!)
(picture deleted due to 10 attachment limit)

Day 5: Well went from a high yesterday to a low today with this shot. Wind - right to left at about 5-7 mph, shot also surprised me which i think i pulled my bow are left some.
Day-5.JPG

Well definitely learned that my MER isn't 70...yet. But that is way better than wounding an animal from attempting a shot! So more practice it is...and i decided during this that I am going to stop being macho and drop the poundage on my draw weight, add about 50-75 grains to my arrows and re-dial in my whole sight and system for this coming fall. Time to get to work.
Thanks for the challenge!

UPDATE: Time to restart due to the turkey haha - more practice!
Day 1.1 - had to use a different range today since it was already dark out, able to open up our hangar gym and get the 70 yards. Winds calm but a little tough to see my pins without much ambient light, not a bad shot though (fluke or not ha)
Day1.1 Range.png
Day 1.1.png

Day 2.1:
Winds about 5 mph from behind.
Day 2.1.png

Day 3.1:
Tailwind of about 10 mph, warm morning.
Day 3.1.png

Day 4.1
Winds calm this morning, pulled it just a little bit
Day 4.1.png

Day 5.1:
Quartering back right to front left 5-10 mph winds.
Day 5.1.png

Thanks for the challenge! need some more practice out to 70 before making that shot!

Alright, joining in on the fun, I don’t think I’ve shot my bow in over a year so going to be starting from the beginning. I’d like to say my MER is around 50 usually, but with the gap in time, and that I can’t get out anywhere to shoot here with the stay at home order, I’m going to be shooting at 40.

Excited to start shooting again.

Day 2
60 degrees. 5 mph wind over left shoulder

Day 3
81 degrees! Getting hot here in California. 6mph wind from the left

After not shooting in so long, I’m seeing how rusty I am. But it’s also driving me crazy not shooting more. Once this is over I’m excited to start shouting again.

Day 4
65 degrees slight breeze. Waited a little too long and had to shoot into the sun. Also getting time for a new target, I had to push this one back through to see the shot, it stopped with my nock halfway through the target.

Day 1 Cold Shot Challenge
Temp 28
No wind
Shooting 50 yards. #quarantine #neighborsyard
Paper plate for vitals of an elk which is probably a little small.

Had to redo my shot to get a to my max distance. Definitely increased the difficultly level.
My shot was little high but was nervous with this shot with the semi tight window.

This is my first post on the Rokslide. Have been reading and following for a long time and thought this was a good place and time to start posting!

Day 1 Shot.

IMG_0902.jpeg

Day 2.
Cool calm day no wind. Shot felt super good and was weirdly steady with almost no pin movement Shot placement proved to be good.
IMG_0915.JPG

Day 3
54 deg
Slight Left to right wind
Not my best effort. Thought my shot felt good. Might have used the wrong pin idk by very low today. Outside the kill zone and probably just a flesh wound on the elk.
IMG_6656.jpeg

Day 4
50 degrees
Slight left to right wind. Thought I compensated a little for the wind but could have a little more.
Shot was much better than I anticipated and much better than day 3. I day left hope it's a good one!

IMG_6673.jpeg

Day 5
35 degrees
calm
Beautiful morning. Shot felt really good and felt calm and relaxed. Not the best placement but the best feeling shot of all of them. I think I would have clipped a lung and made a kill.

Day 1:

60 yards

Gusty and swirling 20-30 mph winds, 60 degrees

Shot felt great but the wind was really challenging.

RealmX, 74 lbs, Axis, razor trick

Insert=goal

Day 2:

18 degrees, gusing wind 20+ from the opposite direction (left to right)

8" diameter circle, I'm definitely low left, second day in a row.

I tool the quivalizer off for this shot due to wind. Very rough conditions to start this challenge here in Wyoming.

Since I can't re-sight the bow, and both shots broke clean and ended up low left, I'm forced into redneck windage strategies for the next 3 days. Will be aiming high right...

20200412_160913~2.jpg

Day 3

25 degrees, NO WIND!

I decided to adjust the sight slightly. Added 1.5 yards of elevation and out 4 clicks left into the sight.

After the shot I put 2 right clicks into the sight and I'm hoping for no wind tomorrow so I might finally hit the middle. I am definitely getting closer...

20200413_183359~2.jpg

Well, day 4 was a great learning experience...

35 degrees, and 35+ mph gusing winds (gotta love Wyoming...) from 60 yards...

20200414_135833.jpg

If you can't see the arrow thats because it was in the dirt berm behind the target.

No way I would ever shoot at a critter from that far in those conditions and today's result confirms that...

Day 5:

35 degrees, 15 mph wind helping and quartering from the right.

Finally got everything together and hit the middle.

Day 1:
61 degrees. Light wind left to right. Shot didn’t feel good and it wasn’t. Focused too much on the outcome and not the shot.

Day 2: After a brief hiatus, due in part to weather I got back out. 37 degrees today, little constant wind, some gusts up to maybe 6 mph. Shot process was better today. A bit higher and farther to the left than I had hoped, but in the kill zone nonetheless. I will say only shooting one arrow puts MER into better perspective.
IMG_1469.jpg

Day 3: 39 degrees. No wind. Shot felt good. Better left to right than yesterday, still a little high. I'll take it!
IMG_1470.jpg

Day 4: 78 degrees. 20 mph wind blowing diagonally from behind me right to left. Took off my quiver to mitigate wind drift. I held to the right, apparently too far, to compensate for the wind and managed to keep it in the kill zone. This weather is getting me ready to start looking for Morels!
CBC 4.JPG

Day 5: About 70 degrees when I took my shot. 14 mph tailwind with a slight right to left. Shot felt very steady and the process was good. A little high but I am very pleased to end the challenge with this shot. I think I will periodically practice like this going forward for the added pressure.

Lastly, A big thank you to Rokslide for putting this on, to the moderators for their hard work to qualify the 200 shooter and to the Rokslide sponsors for offering up some incredible prizes!

Just picked up bow hunting this year. My MER for elk so far is about 40 yards. I want to work up to 60 by this next season.

Gear:

Prime Centergy 33" ATA, 70lb, 29" Draw Length
Spot Hogg Tommy Hogg 5 pin
Vapor trail rest
Scott Wildcat 2 Release
Black Eagle Renegade Arrows 300/.005
OTW Hunting Broadheads 100 Grain

Conditions:

Temp about 71 degrees
Wind Blowing left to right about 10 mph

My Shot: Missed the heart, but thankfully on elk there is a forgiving kill zone!

MER 40_shot_1jpg.jpgMER 40_prime bow.jpg
Day 2: Had to shoot at a different area near my house. I learned that broad heads and my bag aren’t the best combos. But it’s all I have.

No warmup and shot felt really good. What I love about 40 yards is being able to see my arrow fly into target.

It was sunny, 78 degrees and windy today. Wind was gusting about 20 mph, but it was a tailwind so it didn't really cause any issues for me.

Day 3: Sunny and beautiful day in the Texas Hill Country. Wind was pretty calm, maybe 5 mph and about 70 degrees. Shot felt great. As I am becoming more proficient I am glad that I am able to "feel" a good or bad shot before I even see impact. My bag is paying a little price, but its only a few arrows so it will be ok!

arrow close up.jpgday 3 shot.jpg

Day 4:

Wind was blowing right to left about 15 mph. Temperature was about 70 degrees. The shot didn't feel great and while I would like to blame the wind I can't. I let off a poorly executed shot.

For this challenge I'm taking the approach that I get off my truck and see an elk and have one shot at it. I take the shot as presented...the wind was blowing me around a bit, but at the end of the day I think I let that impact me more than it should have. Another lesson learned...focus and execute and block "noise" out.MER 40_shot_4.jpg

Day 5:

Calm wind. About 70 degrees and perfect. Took my shot after sunset, but still had plenty of light. Shot felt great. Left the bow clean.

Thanks for challenge. Stay safe and happy hunting to all.

I haven't tuned these broadheads in yet so I think it would be safe to say I need to move my tophats over on the top cam, maybe the bottom too. I tried to compensate today and it bit me in the ass! All in all, this was a great challenge, thanks rokslide for putting it together

Happy to see Robby running this challenge again this year! I haven’t been shooting much with a new baby in the house. Two boys under three hasn’t lended itself to much practice! First time shooting in a month. No practice warmups yesterday or earlier in the week. My first shot was very cold!

MER: 52yds. Max range in the yard. Kill zone on the deer. Aim point low left of big hole.

Setup; (Compound, fixed broadhead)
Bowtech Experience ~65#, 30.5” LH
QAD Ultra rest
TightSpot 5
SpotHogg Fast Eddie XL 2pin
B-Stinger 10”
GoldTip Pierce Platinum 300 29.25” 442gr
Slick Trick Viper Trick 100gr
Fang release

Day 1:
Shot from knees. Sunny 82° with 10-15mph winds full value from 3 O’clock. Shot felt okay at the release, but either I torqued the bow or the winds affected the arrow more than anticipated. Definitely can’t expect to shoot this 52yd MER this cold in this wind without more practice!

Day 2: (Monday)
Again from the knees. Calm to variable 3mph. Shot felt good. Decided to put an obvious aimpoint on the target for my and everyone’s benefit. Good impact today, bad news pulling the arrow. The insert came loose and left the ViperTrick in the target. Luckily it was within range of pliers and was successful in removing the broadhead.

Day 3: (Wednesday 15 Apr)
From the knees with sunny skies and 73°. Not a good shot. Winds 4 o’clock at ~10, but I doubt it was the wind. I held for a good 20+ seconds and the bow kept wanting to lean/drop left. I have a feeling my form was crap for this shot and I didn’t even know it. I was a little rushed trying to squeeze in a shot before giving my toddler a bath. Should have let down and tried again. Next time, better focus on form!

Day 4: (Friday 17 April)
Again shooting from the knees. Partly sunny, calm, 73° and muggy. Shot felt fine, but still left and a bit high. In the zone, but further away from point of aim than I’d like with perfect shooting conditions. I definitely think I’m doing something wrong. Thinking it might be my anchor, but need to ask a friend of mine to critique my form.

Day 5: (Sunday)
Last day! Shot from the knees. Sunny and warm 88° with 10-15mph wind from the left. Luckily the house blocks the wind for a bit and I waited for a calmer moment in the wind. Shot felt a little bit punched, but I’m not too disappointed with where the arrow ended up. Now it’s time to fine tune my form and practice in the wind to get used to making appropriate adjustments.
