MER 20 yards:
Shooting with broadheads.
I am calling the yellow circle of the Rinehart my kill zone.

Toelke SS 64" 61@32"
Easton Axis Trad 340's full length, gold tip Stainless half outsert (75 grains) and 250 grain VPA's. 3 4" shield cut fletching

Day 1: wind gusts at my back, maybe 15 mph, barely snuck it in the kill zone. Pressure was very tangible shooting this one.
4A68DEDD-D634-4CBF-8F3B-B08CA383122F.jpeg
Day 2: balmy 65 degrees and calm, from a knee. Something is off with my clicker. It keeps clicking too soon. I reset it without letting down completely. That was a mistake, as you can see by my arrow. ***As I massaged my wounded pride back at camp, after hitting a monster buck right in the heavy shoulder bone, I discovered a branch had caught in my clicker cord, sliding it over an 1/8th inch down my string. This was causing my draw length to be shorter by almost an inch. Problem is resolved for now. I need to tie a much longer nail knot on my string to prevent this issue from happening again. This is why trad guys carry blunts and stump shoot while they hunt. I usually have launched two or three arrows that day before it's ever go time on a deer.***8C094845-7982-4F72-969B-713C8A11310B.jpeg
Day 3: Christ is risen! My shooting has not. Calm conditions again, and I barely got it in the bottom of the kill zone. Line cutters are still kills though!
E3C12B09-22FC-4368-9A0D-862C7D91B97A.jpeg
Day 4:
Took a day off yesterday, in this hypothetical hunt I got rained out.
Today was a good shot, but I can feel my lack of practice. My mental checklist is getting fuzzy.
BED0CADF-0243-4E69-9B7A-BB02C09549C9.jpeg
some guys have been showing off their broadheads and I wanted to get in on the action.
E2104B11-B77A-4DE6-8877-0807062B15F0.jpeg
day 5: yuck. I can emphatically say I need to be shooting daily. I didn’t feel pressure after day 1, but the shooting left a lot to be desired.EA22109D-2FC0-4EB4-9FF7-AFBD0B2D7C6B.jpeg

Going with a MER of 50, 8" vital
Hoyt RX-3 70lb draw, Black Gold Ascent sight, QAD Dropaway, Tightspot quiver, Easton Injexion 330 with titanium insert and 100 grain fieldpoint

Day 1 40ish degrees, at sunset, with a little wind in the back, shooting off a snowbank onto a snowbank20200410_200447.jpg

Day 2
Beautiful Wyoming spring morning in the 40's, sunny and a slight breeze to the north, shot felt good20200411_100336.jpg

Day 3
An evening shot, 10 minutes or so of legal shooting light left, 28 degrees slight breeze. I was fighting the lowlight alittle and got it out of the target area.

Day 4
Cold and windy out there, 31 degrees feels like it's in the 20's, 15 mph wind. Shot was low on the outside edge of the target zone.

First year doing the challenge because I’ve never wanted to give up practice for 5 days.
MER 60 (furthest I can shoot at my house while standing on the opposite side of the county road) using the center module on my matrix and calling that a deers vital area. Elk I would go 80 with a larger vital but I won’t shoot past 60 on a deer.
Elite Synergy pulling 73.5 lbs at 29.5”, gold tip 300 at 460 grains going 280 fps, Hamskea hybrid hunter micro and black gold ascent 3 pin. I have to dial for 60 so leaving the dial set and Quivalizer with my bottom arrow removed simulating a broadhead shot. Carter Wise choice 3 finger. Shooting Atac broadhead that I use for practice because I’ve missed a few times with it.

Day 1
Windy left to right 10-15 mph (I really struggle in the wind with the quivalizer but I left it set in stabilizer mode), 55-60 degrees. Tried to time the lull and should have just held left a little. Managed to keep it in the vital but not as good as I expect to shoot. You can see the angle of my arrows impact, I’m standing straight on taking the picture.

Day 2
I skipped yesterday because it was a wind whiteout blizzard. 28 degrees by the time I went out and shot. Bright with the snow and sun.

CD7A7762-C9B1-4026-85AF-F5B0C1A64E12.jpeg
Day 3 windy left to right 5-7 mph, 45 degrees. Not my best shot with the wind and I was floating all over when the shot broke. It’s in
E1883695-D230-44EC-B475-4651F558D611.jpeg
Day 4
Overcast 45 degrees and just enough breeze to notice left to right. I drew and was struggling to get the shot off and knew there was a car coming that backed out of its driveway as I was drawing so I let down and waited for the car to pass collected myself and executed a pretty good shot. Pin wasn’t perfect but the shot went off so much better than it would have the first time I drew.
9B2B99F0-71D0-4718-A35F-91077D2236A5.jpeg
Day 5 right around 40 degrees slight 3-5 mph wind with some harder waves right to left tonight.
52B63410-7032-44C5-83B7-DE54238EF2AE.jpeg
I was skeptical going in but this challenge serves a purpose and I’ll be repeating before September. Several days reminded me what it’s like to not shoot for awhile during season then grab the bow and practice between trips or weekends.

Day 3
No wind

Day 4
No wind 15% downhill angle. Just barely caught the green “ kill zone”

Day 5
No wind 15% downhill. Even though I shot ok the last 5 days, I’m hoping I’ll keep on practicing more with my broadheads so I’ll feel more confident going into this season than I have in the past.

21 yards. 53# Black Widow PSR bow, 75-80 spine Douglas for arrow w/ 160 grain field point from Addictive Archery.

Day 2 Well that sucked. 12 hour shift 2 kids watching. No excuse.

Day 3 12 hour shift. High I must have looked at his head.
Day 4. Day off did some yard work. Made a controlled shot.
I had to repost pics due to not saving yesterday’s.
Day 5 Gusty wind. Blew it on this one. This whole challenge has been about 6 yards further than practice.

I have decided to do the stick bow and compound, both with broadheads.
Distance (MER): 20 yards stick bow 50 yards compound
Stick bow specs: This is a bow I made with my good friend who has started building bows in retirement. "Welding Archery" I named her the Deflater. Walnut riser with white phenolic, maple cores and cherry veneers.
41# at 28" 58" tip to tip arrows are Gold tip Classic 500 spine with a 80 grain stainless insert, fletched with 4 4" AAE trap vanes tipped with a 150 grain RMSG Cutthroat total weight 558 gr. Shooting three under with a Black Widow tab.
The compound is a Mathews Halon 7. 62 lbs, Spott Hogg Boss sight, Black Eagle Carnivore Carnivore 350 arrows,75 gr brass inserts 3 fletch Blazer, tipped with Wasp 125 gr Drone total weight 412 gr. I am using a trufire thumb release.

Day one: 31 degrees and still.
The turkey is being shot straight on. Very happy with the shot
My elk target is off set slightly. I would have liked to be be slightly back of where I shot
6bdbc5a1526302d49d78a6793b5d92e5.jpg

Day 2:
Wind steady (guessing 7 mph) left to right, 41 degrees. Should have been a great morning for shooting.

Longbow on the turkey was great left to right but low. I’m not sure if I didn’t follow through or collapsed.

Compound: I shot forward and very high. I have no idea what I did. I had what I thought was a good release but this shot cost me a broadbead and insert on my rock hard ancient elk target.
112c701225d69d689c544a68edad27b5.jpg

Day #3
The weather stinks here today, rain and wind. I was able to shoot this AM when the rain was just a drizzle. Wind strong left to right. Not a good day of shooting.
4ac8f3e9f1135d11f542c77b55de9b1c.jpg

Day 4:
This challenge is killing me. Sunny and cold today. No wind. Two days in a row low with the struggle stick and the fourth day in a row forward with the compound.
be430faab34c99a03624371a7b2c2f5d.jpg

Day 5:
This has been a rough road. I have confirmed that I need reps with my longbow. With the compound i should have made sure my bow was tuned to my broadbeads the week before the challenge. Every shot was far right. This has been a great exercise. Thanks Robby and all the moderators.

Doing both the compound and stick bow. The compound is a Hoyt Carbon Element upgraded w RKT cams, 57#, 28.5" Drawlength, Montana BG Mountain Lite site w 4 pins, QAD Ultrarest and GT Hunter pro arrows, 4 fletch w 125gr KUDU broadheads.
The stickbow in an OL Adcock ACS, 50# @ 28", Carbon arrow weighing 558gr topped with Ribtek broadhead. Ive had the arrows so long, I dont remember the brand and no markings.
My MER for the compound = 50 yards,
MER for the longbow is 20 yards.

6:20am, 38 degrees w a cold morning breeze off the Rio Grande. LB#5.jpg
CCB#1 (2).jpg
CCB_LB#1 (2).jpg

Day 1: Longbow shot barely caught the bottom of my foam ball target. Compound may have been pulled L by the breeze or maybe I pulled it a bit...

Day 2: Compound: Collapsed with my bow arm and pulled right...elevation was perfect. Ugh. I've been focusing on back tension and just lost it w/ my bow arm:-(
CCB#2.jpg
Will shoot the Longbow #2 later or tomorrow as going to attend virtual Easter services w family.
OK Longbow#2 Miss low...
CBC_LB2.jpg

Compound #3 - Miss low. Shot felt good so not sure why. Cold-35 degrees and raining. CBC#3.jpg
day 4 - 30 degrees and sunny
Compound#4: better - finally...
LB#3: ok shot
CBC#4.jpgLB#3.jpg

Day 5 Compound: 26 degrees and sunny. slightly low/left but I am happy with it. Amazing how much pressure comes with one arrow/day, no practice...
Longbow#4 was low - just me...when I released it looked perfect...ah, the joy of the strugglestick...
CBC#5.jpgLB#4.jpg
LB#5...so glad to get this out of the way and back to practice + I have a new to me recurve I just got from Billy Goat and I am itching to shoot it. Of course I had to end the 20CBC with a miss...

pics of my setup. Built the target house from scrap. Planning to buy a replacement bag and reuse the stuffing from that old hurricane target. Notice the stakes in ground fit rinehart woodland boar, woodland deer, and blackout bear. So I can change out targets using same stakes

Mathews Chill r. 70#. 30” draw. 12” bee stinger front. 10” bee stinger back. Black Gold ascent verdict 5 pin slider. Ripcord dropaway. Scott longhorn release

black eagle spartan with standard insert and 75gr brass weight. Nockturnal h nock sanded to fit (no bushing). Slick trick magnum 100 gr. Aae max stealth 3 fletch. One stringer 4” wrap

50 yards target species elk. Hope to stay in the green circle on 18-1

Day 1. Early morning. No wind
146EA19E-6E60-4037-83F2-B7C90C6D562F.jpeg
day 2. First light. Slight breeze left to right. The miss was 100% mental thoughShooting early bc I struggle with peep alignment in low light. Figure it’s a good test38E47D8A-ADC9-4FEC-9AE0-8C4D568E0C24.jpeg
Day 3. High noon. More wind today blowing right to left. Miss is target panic related though
01868A67-8095-4FD6-93A0-BB7656F989E3.jpeg
day 4. Breezy but not bad. Sun setting behind target in evening. Much better between the ears today
62C47DE1-2825-4CCB-A56A-5D75FEB46B4A.jpeg
day 5. Morning. No wind
95B144BB-1094-4240-973F-1F52508D745F.jpeg

Assessment:
3/5 on the green of 18-1 at 50 yards isn't very good. My issues are entirely related to target panic. If I can overcome the TP, I'm fine. As of today though, I'd question myself shooting at 50.

3 fletch silent knight

Day 2: 74 degrees, 20-30mph winds. Not hunting season comfortable with my hunting bow and it shows.

Day 3: 51 degrees, 15 MPH winds, barely caught edge of zone I am counting for vitals

Day 4: 45 degrees, 12 mph winds. Best feeling shot I’ve had and same location. Last 3 days shots would be a decent group. I attribute this to new arrows and just getting my sight back the day before the challenge started. Think I need to do some BH tuning/adjustments if I am going to shoot these strikers. After this challenge I will have to spend more time behind this setup to confirm.

Day 5: MISS. 46 degrees, 13 mph winds. The misses right finally got me. I have a lot of work to do before the season. Looking forward to do another update on progress before the season.

Im doing the cold bow challenge at 60 yards. Going to try to shoot one arrow five days in a row no matter the weather. Bow set up is a Hoyt nitrum turbo wannabe nock on fanboy edition from
Craigslist. Shooting 70 poinds at 30”. Hamskea trinity rest, spott hogg fast eddie double pin (cause i wanna be cool Like cam hanes) quiver is a farm store buy, i think ots a trophy ridge 5 arrow quicker woth a built in green light for extra arrow speed. 8 imch stabalizer and my arrows are easton axis 260’s, with 150 up front and a four fletch aae max stealth. Shooting a nock to it for this.

Day 1: about a picture perfect morning to start, no wind and a nice sunny 28 degree morning. Everything felt good shot broke clean and got luck the pin was in the middle and started off with a good shot.

Day 2: another very calm morning upper 30’s and no wind but foggy. Made another good shot, definatly havent put many two arrow groups like this at 60 but ill take it

arrow 3: skipped a day cause it was super windy. Today 35 woth maybe 10 mph wonds from behind and big gusts. Had to let down once from wind but Hit a calm spot between gusts and made the shot count

arrow 4: light breeze from behind, shot felt good ended up being low, could through tge challenge flag on this one woth the plate being curled but i should of just shot in the moddle and make it an obvious hit instead of a graze.

final arrow: light wind again, 44 outside. Made a decent shot. All in all im pretty happy with the results. Didnt shoot my compound since november, maybe shout 20 arrows leading up to this. All i know is ove learned a lot the last few years after deciding to go in depth on my archery skills. 3 years ago id of been happy to hit foam a couple times at 60. Seems its all paying off but still plenty of room to improve. Goodluck all.

Day 1 - Very slight right to left breeze, but otherwise cool (mid 40's) and calm. Hit a little low, but otherwise felt good. 50 yard MER.

I'm shooting an Elite Answer at 28"/60lbs with Gold Tip 340 arrows cut 27" carbon to carbon (plus an extra 30gr up front and gto nock collars on the rear) and Slick Trick 125's. Black Gold Pure 75 single pin sight, AAE Pro Drop rest, B-Stinger 8" up front and 10" rear with Dead Center QD and Offset Bar (playing around with different setups before the season).

Good luck everyone and thanks for putting this together Robby! I was very surprised to see Randy Ulmer kick this off!

Day 2 - Happy Easter! A gorgeous morning, maybe just over 50 degrees and very still. I think I subconsciously overcompensated for hitting a little low yesterday and put today's shot high. Shot still felt good though.

Day 3 - Got my shot in early before the weather turned even worse; high 50's but raining heavily and with increasing left to right winds (we're supposed to get some 70mph gusts and thunderstorms later). Held at the top of the target because of the rain and lucked out with an ideal result.

Day 4 - Still hitting a little lower than I think I should be when the shot breaks and everything feels really good; might have to make some adjustments after this is all over. A little cooler than yesterday morning, no rain though and only some occassional wind.

Day 5 - Well, not the way I wanted to end it, but it confirms that something is off as I hit low again - I'm either dropping my bow arm at the shot or need to go back and verify my broadheads are hitting with my fieldpoints and make adjustments as necessary. Temps in the high 40's, pretty calm with respect to wind.

Thanks again for putting this together and good luck to everyone when the drawing takes place!

Thanks to Robby and Travis and the sponsors for hosting the Cold Bow Quarantine Challenge.

This year I am going to try something different with the Cold Bow Challenge. In previous years I have shot at 60 or 70, but this year I am going with a 50 yard MER and trying to mimic a hunting scenario. I will be drawing and holding full draw for 60 seconds, then blowing a diaphragm cow call to simulate stopping a moving bull, then shooting at 50 yard MER. I’ll be shooting an Exodus swept - the actual broadhead that I shot with a bull last year.

Equipment:
Prime Centergy Hybrid, 78# draw weight and 29” draw length
Black Gold Assault Verdict Custom 5 pin slider
Beestinger Front and side stabilizer
Hamskea Hybrid Hunter limb driven rest
Wise guy release
BEA Spartan Arrows with insert weight and AAE Max Stealth Vanes
Exodus 125gr swept broadhead
Total arrow weight is 482gr and approx 290fps

Day 1:

No wind, 60 degrees. The draw and hold went fine and I had some pretty good pin float going on when the 60” timer elapsed. The shot broke while the pin was low, so the result isn’t surprising.

fd856b0dd5637ac13330390a7c0d99e5.jpg

Day 2: the Radio Flyer lives to fight another day! 70 degrees little to no wind. At the break I swore this was going to hit 4” at 9 o’clock. I was really surprised to find it in almost the exact same spot as yesterday. More pin float today maybe I had too much coffee this morning.

051292c9b6463d65190022c3213919d0.jpg

Day 3: totally shanked it. I had major pin float going on and I just couldn’t get it settled on the target. I think it was going to the gym before shooting that did me in on the hold, but maybe that’s an excuse. I suck. Standing, swirling winds. No factor on the shot. This was all me.
55416c6e2de40496e6db8632920f5a31.jpg

Day Quattro:
Back in the saddle after day 3’s embarrassing performance. 7-8kt winds, but swirling and no factor on the shot. The arrow impacted right where it should have based on the release. Pin float was better than yesterday and I tried to take a few extra seconds after the timer went off and strove for a surprise release.

Day 5:
I finished on a high note with the best shot of the 5 days. Very little pin float at the end of the hold and the mew sounded pretty decent. For some reason, I can’t seem to call that well under full draw for a minute! 50 degrees, small breeze but no impact on the shot. My daughter is happy that her wagon didn’t get a jagged hole punched through it! I may keep posting photos while I tinker with my bow. My broadheads are hitting waaay left of my field points and I need to figure out why. Much worse than when I put my bow away for the season. Other than the atrocious shot on day 3, all of my shots would have been clean kills.

MER 30yds. 35# draw wt. Muley kill zone.
Day 1: 32F, light breeze from North (see wind ribbon in pic), adijusted slightly for breeze.
Shooting Mathews Mission with Scheels Rogue Blue 500 shaft with Muzzy 100gr broadheads.
MER & drawweight are low due to illness 2 yrs ago (yay Crossfit/Rhabdo) that affected my arm strength.
20200414_113700.jpg
Day 2: 28F with 12mph wind in my face. Sporadic crosswinds gusting to 16 mph. Sunny. Feeling crappy from allergies/caffeine/sitting inside for 2 days. Felt lucky to hit the circle at all today. Hah.
20200417_150724.jpg
Day 3: Beautiful day, light breeze in my face, shot at 3pm.
20200419_094937.jpg
Day 4: Ugh. Crosswind 12-15mph. Did arms workout the night before, had a hard time steadying the bow this morning.
20200420_083422.jpg
Day 5: Supposed to have a high wind warning today, so up at 6:45, laundry, dishes, coffee, then grabbed the bow to shoot before the wind came up. Beautiful day, lightishdiagonal breeze in my face from my left. Held just a little to the left. Happy to end it with a good shot. This was fun, thanks for getting me back out there thinking about hitting my mark!

Cold bow and cold morning! 28° with a southerly 1 mph breeze.
MER 42yds
Revolt X @68 lbs 28.5 draw
Gas Ghost string, Vaportrail Gen 7, HHA Optimizer Tetra, KTECH stabilizer, Carter RX1
VAP Elite 300, 540 grains, Bieter nock, 180 gr ethics system, Iron Will 100 solid. Currently 4 fletched with TAC vanes but they'll be getting replaced with 2" Rayzr feathers.

My target is the 1- 1/2" dot which is about the size of a turkeys neck. Aim small miss small.

Day 2.
Well I wish I could blame it on not having breakfast yet but...
31° with a light snow and a North wind at 13 mph from L to R. Shot felt good, but I drifted a little
20200412_081149.jpg
Day 3:
35° and a little snow. West wind at 15mph directly in my face. Let down the first draw and sent the second.
20200413_154015.jpg

Day 4. Still waiting for spring to come back.
25° with a 17 mph wind at my back. Settled in and let one fly. Felt like I rushed it just a touch and was not confident where my arrow was going to hit. One shot a day with a broadhead is definitely eye opening.
20200414_164524.jpg

Day 5. I'm really starting to like this one arrow a day challenge. I'm feeling a lot more confident. I'm definitely going to continue to do this from time to time.
25° with a slight wind. Release felt good.

Beautiful morning and excited to start the challenge!

MER 50 yards

Hoyt Carbon Defiant 34. 70# 29” draw
Spot Hogg 5 pin
Spot Hogg Wise Guy
Day Six 300 spine
AAE Hybrid 26
Iron Will V100

Day 1. 7°c / 45°f ish. Wind was calm
IMG_0589.jpgIMG_0590.jpg

Day 2.
Clear and sunny 7 degrees Celsius
Partial head wind right to left 10km/hr
Hit 4'' low on both days. I may have to adjust my pin but I think I will wait until after the CBC and just hold a touch high tomorrow. Or it could be the nerves!
IMG_0615.jpgIMG_0616.jpg

Day 3
Nice sunny and clear day 8 degrees celsius
Slight right to left breeze but pretty minor.
I held a touch high today and I am very happy with my shot!
IMG_0641.jpgIMG_0643.jpg

Day 4
Overcast with a light rain. 11 degrees celsius with 10km/hr wind gusts at my back.
Today was and epic fail! I tried to shoot between the gusts and totally rushed my shot. I will be looking for redemption tomorrow!
IMG_0647.jpg
IMG_0648.jpg

Day 5.
Clear sunny day 15 degrees celsius.
Strong 25 km/hour wind gusts head on.
I waited patiently most of the day to see if the wind was going to die down. Late this afternoon I decided to just go for it. I waited for the wind to calm then started my shot process. Overall I am happy with the result and had a bit of redemption after yesterdays fail.
IMG_0651.jpgIMG_0653.jpg

What an awesome challenge! It was a real eye opener on how difficult it was. Before this challenge I always felt my MER was 40 yards. In the spirit of challenging myself I decided to go with a MER of 50 for the CBC.
I look forward to working hard to be better for next year.
Thanks to all the Rockslide team for putting this together!

Two bows this year. Both will be broadheads.

Bow One: 75 yards
PSE Carbon Air 32 70lbs 28.5", Shcaffer XV rest, Cabelas slider sight
Bloodsport Evidence 300, straight blazer 3 fletch, Ethics 105gr insert/outsert, 145gr Bearpaw Jager Broadhead

The replaceable center of the target is the vitals I'm going for on either target.

Bow Two: 30 yards
Recurve, JC Custom Optimus 17" riser, Greatree 60" Point Limbs 35# at 28".
Goldtip Traditional 340, 4" 3 feather fletch, 100gr brass insert, 145gr Bearpaw Jager Broadhead

Bow1 at 75 yards:
Shot 1 43 degrees, overcast, slight left to right breeze. Shot a little right today.
IMG_1600.jpg

Shot 2 48 degrees, left to right breeze, overcast. A bit low today. Happy Easter!!

IMG_1604.jpg

Shot 3 44 degrees, 20 mph left to right wind, partly cloudy, aimed a bit left for wind.
IMG_1607.jpg

Shot 4 42 degrees, 10 mph breeze from behind, partly cloudy

IMG_1610.JPG

Shot 5 38 degrees, left to right light breeze, partly cloudy

IMG_1614.JPG

Bow 2 30 yards:
Shot 1 43 degrees, slight left to right breeze, Stoked that I hit the target.
IMG_1601.jpg

Shot 2 48 degrees, left to right breeze, overcast. Needs work. Lots and lots of work.
IMG_1605.jpg

Shot 3 44 degrees, 20 mph left to right wind, partly cloudy
Great looking shot, but I was aiming at the top target. String hit my coat sleeve. Total rookie mistake.
IMG_1607.jpg

Shot 4 42 degrees, 10 mph breeze from behind, partly cloudy, much better shot as I was actually aiming at this target today. Decided to shoot for the bottom target for the last day as well.
IMG_1609.JPG

Shot 5 38 degrees, left to right breeze, partly cloudy, overall could have been better. Good thing, I have all summer. Just got back into trad archery. This was a good first start. Clearly need to work on form, and may need to tweak my arrow a little for spine.

IMG_1613.JPG

Fun stuff. Thanks for putting this on and thanks to the sponsors for the prizes. Really good exercise to see where I am at early on in the year.

Alright alright, second year of CBC for me!

Same MER at 75, but shooting a new bow this year.
EBEDDB8D-8C40-43D2-9FA6-38797F624166.jpeg
Shooting an Elite Option 6, 80lbs with 29” mods for a 29.25” draw. Catfish custom strings
Arrows are Easton axis 260s 4 fletch with 125 grains up front. Total arrow weight right at 500grains. Going just under 300fps
Will be switching between Magnus 2 blade black hornet and Iron Will s125
Black gold sight, quivalizer and nock2it

Here’s a pic of range and target, 8” circle. It’s the lil white square in the dugout hillside

86429D7D-C4C3-407F-B5DC-BB2428B3E5FE.jpeg

Day 1
Just started snowing big fat flakes this morning, no wind which is nice. Have stalked many a critter in these conditions so adds a nice touch with wet glasses and a little difficulty seeing fine details at 75y
3FB75A50-8130-4DA1-AD12-E710D6E09E1E.jpeg
Not bad, but hope to do better tomorrow

DAY 2
10degs, 5mph left right wind
E2BF436C-3D21-418B-8A65-6E2B0C9887D5.jpeg

Well I screwed the pooched this morning.

Slapped an iron Will from last season on. I missed a nice elk with this head due to ranging wrong.

Shot was kneeling and felt clean, thought I had my pin right on the money.
Results say otherwise... going to go spin test this arrow now, maybe that will make me feel better about myself... dang haven’t had this bad of shot in a while but better here than on an animal

056F0A77-D3D4-4C9A-BAA9-E3C323C6B4CD.jpeg

DAY 3
Mild Redemption

Shooting same iron will as yesterday on a different shaft

Tried to wait out this mornings single digits, made it up to 12 degrees with a brisk 15-25mph left to right wind.
Kneeling shot again, waited for lull in gusts, probably was 10-15mph when I shot, broke clean and felt good, aimed for center didn’t compensate
9314F7D5-899D-4244-895F-C2C7695B3398.jpeg
Snuck it inside killzone, dead level just got pushed right. I’ll take it after yesterday!

DAY 4
Went for a long snowmobile ride and ski tour today, definitely feeling all those whoops in my forearms this evening. After dinner was able to time a pause in the strong winds we had all day.

28 degrees, winds about 5-10 left right, kneeling shot with 2 blade black hornet
1E60DECD-1C85-4111-BA3E-8FF8A584C7F7.jpeg
Not great Not bad, I’ll let you decide if cutting rings counts as in the money. Man I’m rusty on these cold shots, good practice though!

DAY 5
Calm after the storm, 30degs no wind
Iron will s125 today
Drew once and had pin wobbling around too much on me so I let down.
Think I punched the trigger a bit on the shot, was pretty anxious trying to get last arrow in the damn 8” circle
F3EBAFDA-E2C5-4091-8725-9877692BB738.jpeg
Another one right on the line, jeez

Well that’s my 5days! Fairly all over the place even if you take away my day 2 flyer. I need to practice more with this 80 pounder.

Thanks to Robby and all the rockslide crew as well as the whole heap of sponsors! Another CBC in the books.

Day 1: Early morning shot before work without warming up the shoulders. Light headwind, 35 degrees.
C63416A4-17FC-4BD7-BCEA-FF929894FFD8.jpeg

Day 2: garbage conditions, 30 degrees and 15 mph headwind. Thats not the reason for the garbage shooting though.

I’ve been shooting my first arrow low with the Hoyt all week. Was hoping I’d worked it out before today.

Day 3- 62 degrees sunny windy
Let down a couple times until it felt good in the black but still low. Broad head is 1.8 gn lighter than the field point so that should make it shoot high if anything. Think maybe the bowstring needs replacing? Last week it would shoot low the first time then would be fine? Most likely me! Anyway this has been very eye opening, glad I decided to try it this year.

Day 4- 62 degrees partly cloudy and windy
Bad day with the trad! Felt myself collapse just as I released and missed the whole target! Still low with the Hoyt, ready for this to be done so I can figure out what’s going on!

Day 5- 66 degrees sunny light wind
Trad felt good today. Aimed high with the Hoyt and got a hit. After I took my pictures shot 3 more arrows all Pretty well centered and 4-6” higher than the first of each day. Could something be loose and shooting tightens it up or probably me?
