My takeaways '25 vs '24

1) compound guys averaged 1.8/3 hits vs 2.5/3, while increasing to 60 yds vs 54.5
2) trad guys averaged 2/3 hits vs 1.7/3, while increasing to 23.5 yds, vs 20 yds
3) so trad guys improved while compound guys slipped
4) most shooters need to shorten their MER
5) Mathews passed Hoyt
6) SEVR holding strong first place both years

what else is notable?

@realunlucky some good Tipsy Tuesday fodder here.

For all you draw odds nerds out there:
S.W.A.G. ALERT! I am making these numbers up:
~75 shooters are getting two chances -> 150 tickets
8 shooters (probably) got three -> 8 tickets
25 shooters only have one in the hat -> 25 tickets

Assuming WKR status and one bow, you had 2/183 chances (1.09%) of winning a Swarovski!
If you were a WKR and shot trad + wheels, you had 3/183 chances (1.6%) of winning a Swarovski!

The moral of this story is everyone should learn to shoot a trad bow, it adds half a percent chance of Swaro loot next time!

 👊

I'm no statistician, but can confirm there were 166 entries on the Google doc Sam sent,

and that 73% of the members had two entries, meaning they 1) completed the challenge and/or 2) shot compound & trad and/or 3) had at least 300 posts

Randle had two entries and Random.org pulled his 2nd one. If he'd only had 1 entry (all else being equal) he'd have missed the Swaro'

(but I agree the world would prolly be a better place if more of us shot trad).

This was my worst year shooting , changing shooting form and poundage,
I now shoot a thumb button and am rreworking anchor point and pull thru and things are much better.
Was truly a learning experience .

Thank you mods and sponsors!! Didn't win but its a free chance I appreciated!

Looking forward to next year.

Keep practicing everyone and good luck this fall!

This challenge has encouraged me to start shooting earlier in the spring the last 2 years in preparation. Up next is Cold Bore! Thanks to everyone involved in putting this on!

Next year can we consider people just picking one weapon, i.e. just trad or just compound (or just crossbow for that matter if someone really wanted)?

I think shooting two weapons just muddies the water. In the cold bore challenge I don’t think they are shooting rifles and muzzleloader both right? If this is mimicking a hunting scenario I say pick the weapon you plan to hunt with this year, and use that for the cold bow challenge.

Last time I’ll complain I promise

ahh, complaint well taken but we beat this up a few years ago and decided it was the easiest way to get the Trad guys in without having to host a separate contest... and answer the guys who truly do shoot both weapons.

oh, and the muzz guys are pretty much excluded from the Cold Bore with the 400 limit so none are asking (they might now, though lol). We were getting asked on the Cold Bow by guys who shot both

I would like a category for trade muzzy on the cold bore. Flintlocks are like ... 200 is a serious poke. I'd like to use mine for the CBC as that's what I'm focusing on this year

Thanks to the sponsors and those who put it on!
The data is pretty interesting, I wouldn't expect that many misses. I definitely agree with Robby that most MERs are too far. It's hard to consider it an "effective" range with a 0% or 33% hit rate. But, I'll admit, I was pushing it considering the lack of practice I had up to this point and I just got lucky. I assume others are doing the same.

Amazing what a couple months of practice and some fine tuning on the setup does. I walked outside tonight and there was 0 wind for the first time in quite a while. Headed out to 60yd and launched a 100gr full blade Exodus, 100gr Iron Will S100 and 2x field tips. Both broadheads and one field tip in the dot, and the last field tip dropped a touch low. Quite the improvement from back in May. I think I'm done tinkering with the setup until after hunting season now!

you're dialed! thanks for sharing.

I've kept up a few cold bow shots a week since we finished. I've hit 14 out of 17, so 82%. Went 100% in the challenge so 60 yards is my "best day". Shoot enough times and I drop some yardage from my MER.

I haven't made a single 3d shoot this summer. I have shot the outdoor range at Blackfoot 3x, but gotta make 3d happen--more pressure.
