Well, I was going for a long shot mule deer tag but no luck there. I knew it was slim chance but had to try. Did snag myself,and Dad our first rifle tags we wanted. Probably could have wanted later in the day for them since there were 90 leftovers but I wanted to make sure we got them.

It seems like anything desirable was gone right off the bat. Almost all the muley tags are gone as soon as I saw at around 9min after 9. I wonder if Wally World sold tags early, or is it only at CPW locations for leftovers today?

PLEASE don’t confuse my opinion with complaints...makes this conversation take a negative twist. I’m the least entitled person you’ll ever meet.....but I pay my $8k property tax bill in CO every year, $700 truck registration every year, over priced everything to live in a state my family settled in in the late 1800’s.....to get 1 tag if I’m lucky a year worth the time and resource it takes to make a hunting trip a reality.....so my opinion is a resident in their home state should always have preference.

As a NR, I'd say even your OTC tags are worth hunting. I've had 3 good OTC hunts there. Any deficiency in the elk killing was mine. Plenty of elk and even some big ones and never felt over pressured.

Maybe I'm ignorant to how these tags got on the list in the first place. In WY it's because residents didn't want them in their draw, so I perceive that if you wanted one of these tags you could have had it in the primary draw. Is that not correct?

I got my deer tag that I missed in the draw. 1/4 at my level drew it this year and Im happy to still have my 8 points.

I was "in line" by 9:45CST. Had 4 deer tags and 2 elk tags picked out. All gone at 10:04. Sad day... Congrats to anyone who grabbed one!

The secondary draw had all the tags that weren't taken in the primary draw, in my case there wasn't anything that interested me.

The leftover list has anything that wasn't taken in the primary or secondary draw, but more importantly includes tags that were not paid for or turned in, some of these are good tags that weren't available in the secondary draw.

Plus the leftover list gives us a chance to get a 2nd tag per species since the primary draw only allows for 1 tag per species.

No Worries, miscommunication.

I do usually end up hunting OTC both pronghorn and elk because I have never until this morning had luck on “leftover day”.....and it’s worth it, until you get the limited draw experience and then it looses its luster some years.

So you half right.....the issue with the turn ins is that year in and out, people draw tags and then turn them back, so a guy/gal who would have drawn it and wants it misses it in the draw. The secondary draw doesn’t list turn ins, and then leftover day comes and it’s a free for all for everyone. Years again, turn in tags were available to residents a day before it went nationwide.....so there was, in my opinion, the “equal ness” of being a res.

It’s part of the deal so I can’t change it....just wish I could hunt my home state more often without having to go OTC all the time

We got our first backcountry tag. We had planned to do OTC for zone 41, but was able to get a cow tag. Thank you for posting the information.

I was able to grab a Muley tag online this year. No one could sell before 9am. I’ve been in line in the past and usually only the first 1-3 people get a tag they want since you have to wait for the process. I got lucky one year with a tag that had six left. I was first in line and got it and the the guy behind missed out as all were gone in minutes. At least online, we are there at the same time.

The process this morning was messed up. Was in the queue at 8:14 mountain... sat in the PROCEED page til the clocked ticked 9am mountain. As soon as that happened, the site booted my account out and I had to log in again. Haha, when I logged back in again, typed in my hunt code and payment info.... which took 2 minutes. At 9:02 mountain tags where gone. Hopefully the system didn’t crash on CPW as time progressed. I’m still hunting with my spouse and other hunt buddies for the month of September. Good luck for those who picked up a LEFTOVER.

Lots of good archery elk tags were on that list.... one I had applied for in the primary draw but missed out on. Like most others, once my turn in the queue came, they were all gone. Oh well, looks like I'm going muzzy hunting!

Funny, CPW this year (just like last) swore up and down they had 'worked out the kinks'.

Online system was again the limfac. Logged in at 0837...sat in the cue until 0912. Tags gone.

Asking too much to have a website that can function with the obviously high traffic demand?

I did this and was logged in hovering over the proceed button at 9:00 even according to the atomic clock. Dad and I hit proceed and I managed to get a muzzleloader elk tag and he struck out on all the mule deer tags he was eying.

My experience was good, I got the archery elk tag I was after pretty quick, granted the unit I was after had several so that helped.

Man, I actually thought about doing that, but didn't. I'll know better next time. Prolly cost me a muley tag, but then again, probably not.

I called Safeway yesterday to make sure they sold hunting licenses and that someone would be there who knew how to do so. Yes to both. I showed up there nice and early, and told the cashiers I was waiting to buy a hunting license at 9am, they grabbed me a chair.
855 rolls around and they get the manager for me who knows how to sell hunting licenses. She says, "oh honey, that machine hasn't worked for months, we haven't cared to get it fixed because nobody buys hunting licenses anymore.". By the time I got out of the parking lot, I checked the list and everything we wanted was gone.

I was fortunate I logged in a little after 8 MT. I checked again about 850 and was booted, but got right back in. 900 and 3 seconds I hit proceed. This is where things fell apart.

I struggled to navigate the system as this was my first time ever in the CPW site and I punched a few things in wrong as well as missed some buttons, toggles and terms. Lost probably 60 seconds overall. Got my first choice archery elk tag in my cart through to payment but when I clicked submit I was told that code wasn’t available.

Went to my next two and they too were gone. 10, 30 and 12 tags each.

Refreshed the list again around 930. It had been updated at 918 MT. Other than the SW, basically no archery elk tags left.

Back to the OTC plan for me. Nabbing a reissue will most likely be impossible from here on out for me.

I don't get lucky often, but I got really lucky and picked up what I consider to be a "long shot" buck tag. This was the first time I've gotten lucky on leftover day. I've been able to pick up a couple mediocre reissue tags the past few years but never on this first day. My fall just got a lot more exciting.

So am I required to post the ol' "Anyone have any info about Unit XX, X season? Not looking for anyone's honey holes. Just a nice 180+ buck will do. GPS coordinates, feeding and bedding patterns, phone scope and or trail cam pictures all appreciated," LOL

This was painful for me to read. My sympathies, dude!
