LRI is in no way, a "smaller company gaining recognition for their excellent work" They exploded onto the scene and shook up the industry quite some time ago. Anyone that did any amount of research would have known...email is not the way to contact LRI.

If you want to get answers, pick up the phone.

I don't know the situation or the reason for the delay, but communication via a phone call will give you all the answers you need.
Good to know

Probably safe to assume that picking up the phone is the most direct way to communicate with any company these days, as they are likely inundated with hundreds or thousands of emails daily. I don’t know that “any amount of research” is really required to reach this conclusion. That was somewhat of an odd statement as it seems to imply that I did not research the company beforehand which is not true. I read numerous threads about them on Rokslide, all of which suggested rapid turnaround times….which is literally the point of why I started this thread.

While I understand it’s takes a while to have work done, what the OP was requesting shouldn’t take 2 months. I’ve had LRI flute bolts in the past, I had them back within 2 weeks of mailing (across the country).

Installing a prefit barrel and checking headspace takes 5 min in my basement.

I’d give them a call, you’ll likely get a better answer. But at this point, either wait it out or ask to have the parts sent elsewhere.
I can see it getting set on a shelf of barrel jobs and waiting till it’s up.

Never used LRI so this may not be the case with them but I can say that using Rokslide as a barometer for which gunsmith to use seems to correlate more with unfavorable outcomes than favorable in my experience..

In regards to expecting lead times of 6 months for a bolt flute and a prefit install (or even a barrel chambering). I'd encourage you guys to keep sending your projects to those smiths so we can enjoy something more reasonable with others.

While true, phone is better if you want a quick answer. In todays modern world, however, there is zero excuse for not answering emails promptly.

Most gun smiths I know aren’t tech guys who hang out on their email all day, pick up the phone and call like a real person.

While I don’t disagree, someone running a business in 2024 should also answer their emails promptly. If they can’t, get someone who can. The “I’m old school” excuse isn’t valid anymore, for any professional.

Where are they getting the money to pay someone full time to monitor the computer?

Come on. No one said full time. No one said immediate. Just prompt. No one is mad at a 24, or even 48, hour response time. Take the time to answer emails at the end of the work day. Or hire someone who will. Or be prepared to lose business. Those are the only choices for a business these days.

I think it’s reasonable in this day and age to expect ability to communicate via email. Especially since LRI was trying to be more transparent with their work by sending photo updates along the way in their portal.

Maybe they’ve moved away from that, but if they are still doing those updates, they can certainly respond to an email.

If you have been following LRI for any amount of time on their social media platforms, they have been pretty transparent that do things in batches not based upon date in. If you were to send an item in for a service and that service was on the schedule the week after it was checked in, you might have a very short turnaround time. However if your item was checked in the day after a service schedule ended you would have to wait for the next time the service is scheduled.

Where have they posted this?

No posts on Instagram since 2020 and a scroll through Facebook failed to show any such updates. Nor does their website under bolt fluting, barrel fluting, etc.

Only thing I’ve seen mentioning any time was “please allow 21 days for rotation through the shop”.

Again, a phone call after the holidays will likely get this squared away pretty quickly. But if batching of services is the standard now, that should be stately clearly on the website when you order such services.

Just a heads up on anyone having or considering stock work… they are doing inletting for McMillan and are quoting a year out for turn around time on any stock inletting.

Holy sheep shit. I've always wanted them to do some model 70 work for me. But with that wait time I'll wait until I find the exact left handed version I want instead of sending in my right handed one. From all accounts they seem to do good work.

If them specializing in model 70 stuff didn't scream fudd then a quick cruise of their website seals the deal. That alone should tell you that you're not going to get email responses. Don't be that guy. Just call and be polite. It's crazy what you can get done by talking to people respectfully while remaining understanding that you're not their only customer.

Yeah I have a flattop that needs to be done but nothing pressing for it so it’s just sitting in the corner May end up selling it as plans have changed.

My project would be based off of a maple supergrade stock but would require some relieving of the barrel channel. Wonder if they're a year out on that? Hell I'd probably do that myself if that's the case.

Not positive but that sounds like a sweet project. Mine is just a McMillan that I wasn’t sure how the project would end up and it needs milling to a specific action.

That’s an easy DIY job, but if you prefer to outsource it, there’s plenty of other M70 pros out there.

I’m by no means a boomer and I hate email, it’s the least personal form of communication.

If I need something I pick up the phone, hell your email could be in a spam folder, easy to figure out with a phone call.
