It was actually better this year than years past. Got booted to the queue during check out once, but overall prettt good.

Missed an either sex elk muzzleloader tag, picked up a cow elk 1st rifle tag, a mule deer buck 3rd rifle tag for the same unit I drew a doe tag, and a bear tag for the GMUs I like to elk hunt.

Decided to hold off on the pronghorn late rifle tag until the new STL areas are announced.

The agent had mine in at 0900, and my top three archery elk choices were gone by 0901. She had a deer tag from my list, but I didn't want it without the elk tag.

Well THAT was fun. :D

I had two of the 7 tags on my priority list in the cart and then "poof!" they disappeared. 2x I had to log back in completely. But by about 10:30 things were moving along. Tried choice 3-7, nope, nope and nope. LOL

Eventually had to back out, look at the maps and come up with a 8th choice, which worked. Whew!

My plan was to only get one tag at a time, check out, repeat. Shoot for the moon on the first one, reasonably good chance for the second, fall back for the third. Seemed to work out pretty good. I got my second choice for elk and deer.

Funny. I was at the tag choice page at 9:01. 5 tags for my zone we’re available before the 9 o clock start time. All were gone already. How is that possible. Colorado says sale is not complete until payment is accepted That’s not physically possible by the rules they claim. Time for a change. Clearly not a legit system.

People at license agents probably wiped them out. You don’t have to enter payment that route (you pay for your already printed licenses at the counter once your done) so they basically skip an entire step.

When buying in person the tag prints and you have all the time in the world to pay for the tag. When buying online you don't have the tag until payment is received. I have tried both ways, and only had success in person. I have lost a couple of tags online by not getting payment completed before the other guy, including a 61 early rifle elk tag before the 5 point rule. I'm just happy Colorado allows the opportunity to get a tag in this manner and wish Wyoming would have a similar system. A lot of wasted tags here in Wyoming.

It will be interesting to see which tags are reissued on the 13th and after. There are still opportunities coming to get tags or trade up.

That's funny, it didn't work this way for me this morning. I was there in person, one of the tags I wanted was available, he had me pay for it then it said no quota left. Now I paid for it and don't have a tag. Maybe he did something wrong, but either way I have to find a way to get this refunded from DPW.

I was so intent on getting my one tag, I didn't even look at the other species leftovers. Wishing I would have done a bit more homework. Oh well, still got my 1st Choice elk, so it's hard not to be happy.

Ya he did something wrong. In the hundred? Small game, turkey, big game, fishing, leftover, vouchers, extra rod stamps, duck stamps etc I have purchased I have never paid before the license was printed. I don’t think most of the people running the machines even would know how much to charge you with the S&R fees etc. They need the printed license to see the total on it.

Besides that they don’t know if you already have a List A for that species and are even eligible to purchase the license your after.

I have no idea what happened. He swiped my license, then entered my codes, one was available, he selected it and ran my CC. Charge went through, then no license. There is nothing new in my file on the DPW site, so I couldn't tell you what I purchased. He was not terribly familiar with the system, I know that.

I like the fact that people were in quie before nine o clock
I'm very curious about that as well. I was first in line at a DPW office, and by 9:03 we had already looked at deer, antelope and elk tags and all were gone. Also looked at a tag with 81 left at 9:10 and those were gone. Either people were in early or the demand was crazy high this year.

As a CO resident it certainly is harder now that the rest of the world can purchase licenses the same day as us. Leftover day used to be a lot more fun...

I dont have a dog in this fight as I got my first 3 choices at a local shop...however, I was trying on my ipad as well and had I only done that, I'd have had nothing I wanted. Never got past the spinning wheel.

Whoever runs that website, Aspira?...outta be ashamed of themselves. Hired with taxpayer money and do a half-assed job...standard.

No issue besides my own stupidity costing me time after getting to the choices page and therefore my first choice tag getting gone right as I added to the cart. Snagged my second choice so no complaints. If I had a better grasp of how the system works once you get to your license choices page I would have snagged my first choice no problem, live and learn. I’ll be chasing elk on the Western Slope come October, can’t wait.

Interesting. You might have a tag? I have never heard of them doing it that way but I don’t think there is a lot of training with the system. If you got something you should have a emailed receipt sometime today.

Not just a Colorado issue. I've never understood why the Game agencies allow a first come first serve system to award leftovers. Seems like we should go at least one more round of random draw (no preference points needed) to draw. If after that there are still leftovers available then run a first come first serve.

There are a couple of things most hunters want in draws. We tend to like the draws early in the year so we can plan, and we want the opportunity to return the tags if things arise like illness, family emergencies, financial issues, etc. If another round of random draw happened for returns and leftovers closer to season my guess is that 99% of the tags would be allocated without the need for a FCFS system. Not perfect but definitely seems more equitable and easier for agencies.

We already have a leftover draw in Colorado. Nowhere near 99% of the tags get bought.

We got turkey tags!

Isn’t this the last year of the doing the reissue/ leftover process the way they have the last 3 years? Thought some changes were coming next year.
