My dad's 60th is coming up. He loves fly fishing but has never had opportunity to fish out west. This fall, I am wanting to take him up to Colorado for 10 days and fish. My plan would be to fish a river for like two days, move onto another river for a few days, and rinse and repeat.

With this in mind, does anyone have any fly fishing guides in Colorado they would recommend?

Thanks!

anywhere in Colorado you’d prefer?
add on, how does he want to fish?

One of the owners, Justin, of Minturn Anglers is on the board for CRWM and does a lot of speaking when Dan cannot. Justin spoke at our gun club last night. He is also a Rokslide member, but I forgot his screen name.

I would hit the Eagle with Minturn, float Brown's with Up River https://www.upriverflyfishing.com/fly-shop and you would have my two favorite rivers in the state checked off

@ganngus pm me for the third river and a wade trip.

Wade fishing or a float is good. It is really all about an experience for him.

Thanks for the recommendations!

Any reason you chose Colorado. I fly fish Colorado, Wyoming and Montana. For the most part I like Montana the best.

Go just south of Colorado and get a guided float of the San Juan River in New Mexico, I used to fish there with my dad, we got a lot of huge rainbows and have a lot of good memories there.

I just took my dad to Mexico to do some fly fishing, he’s 73 so I’m trying to do more stuff with him. He had an absolute blast catching bonefish with a fly rod.

Since you are coming from TX don’t skip over NM. The Rio Grande is a good float trip with good guides in Taos. Valle Vidal has some good trout water. Rio Chama is good as well as many northern NM streams. Don’t pass up a float on the San Juan or even a wade trip.

Southern CO has the Animas, Hermosa, Lime creek, Piedra River, Dolores.

Fishing along the Front Range I would recommend the guys at Rocky Mountain Anglers in Boulder.

Don't know what shops I would recommend once you get west of the divide.

If he can walk, I can send you to an alpine lake after your do your "lazy" float trips and let him experience cutthroats. If you're in decent shape, you can get there in about 35 minutes. It takes some time getting out, but the fishing will be lights out. Easy 20 fish day.
