If we read the OP, neither of the last two scenarios mentioned is what this discussion is about...

I think it sort of does - on rokslide there is a "cultural norm" of asking less, which I think is part of the "why".

Plus, I think folks have vastly different ideas of a deal - it tends to be that the seller thinks the deal is the price and the buyer thinks it's at the offer.

To be specific, and really not to be a jerk, but because I think this is interesting... I just double-checked two of your current sale postings - the chama qz (cuz I wouldn't mind one) and the ladies backpack. I could easily see how someone would offer $10 less on either given current online discounted prices for new/returnable gear; particularly if you have REI coupons and/or access to a prodeal for the FL stuff.

Not trying to play price police or anything, just trying to answer the "why" question you posed.

What Really grinds my gears is when they try and tell you they can get it cheaper somewhere else or that one sold for cheaper last week and post it right on the thread... why you gotta step on my nutz? Go buy it somewhere else if it really is cheaper somewhere else?

The classifieds are a place to bargain. If the price doesn't say firm I expect them to take offers.

I will make a lower offer on anything I don't really need but wouldn't mind having. I don't care if it is already cheap. If I decide I don't want it maybe I can sell it for $5-$10 more than I paid for it and I am not even out shipping.

Waaahhhh!! Get the sand out, and deal with lower offers than what you have posted. Is it really that hard to type "No Thanks"? If you do not want to take any offers, just put FIRM in your Ad and expect it to stay on the classifieds for weeks.

Lets be honest. This is the only forum where a guy buys $1500 of hunting clothes, uses them a year or two, and tries to sell them for $1450 TYD. This is the only place a guy buys a Kifaru frame, uses ot for a year or two, then tries to sell it for $325 TYD.

Honesty, most of the sellers on this forum think they have a pot of gold and get offended when you don't see it that way. I've bought a lot of stuff here. I've sold a lot of stuff here. My sold stuff rarely requires a "ttt" before it sells. Because I understand the used value of stuff and realize it is used. I always get amused at guys that "ttt" an item for a month trying to get a price that the market obviously will not bear. But, my favorite is when a guy starts a thread telling you he is selling his stuff to finance another purchase, but is asking 90% full price.

Anyways, if you have a problem with people trying to get you lower on your price, look in the mirror, the problem is likely you. Remember, just because it is yours, doesn't make it special.

What works for you is great but most things listed in these classifieds will last forever and some of it there is zero reason to buy new other than not wanting to wait for someone to get rid of theirs. I could not disagree with you more on the optics specifically high end. They are going to last forever why not save a few bucks and buy used. I find packs to be in this same boat. I could fill pages with examples. Most of us buy gear, try it once, and decide it is not exactly what we want. It often is just like new. Why should it only be worth half or some other very low price? I just sold some packs where this was the case. They were essentially new and I was not going to give them away. On the flip side I would have loved to find them being sold from a guy like me for even $25 off because for all intents and purposes they were new.

Buying used for a new to western hunter is extremely important to me because they need so many things to get started it hurts the wallet. The other part of that is they don't really know what they like so it often is best to buy used to see what they like or don't like. They will lose less on the things they don't like.
To each his own

Yep, but the entire reason there are internet forum classifieds is because people want to buy used stuff. Supply and demand. If they didn't want it nothing would get sold.

You've turned this into a "me" issue. This isn't about why you think classified ads are good. It is truly about the asking price for used goods. Whether the OP wants to admit that or not.

I've seen a lot of stuff on this forum for killer prices, and many things simply at a price not worth purchasing used; same as anywhere else. I recall a couple recent items priced just under full retail, with the full retail price listed, while the real retail was significantly lower. I just look at buying used items, as the price needs to be worth the risk. I mean, the vast majority of new products has a satisfaction guarantee, and using a credit card provides consumer protections; which can have real value. For example, my wife just bought a handbag off of ebay that turned out to be a knockoff. She was only inconvenienced a few days due to the policy of ebay allowing time for the seller to respond. The seller never responded, my wife got a full refund, and gets to keep the knockoff due to the seller failing to respond (not that she want´s it, but she doesn't have a return address because they don'y want law enforcement finding them).

I look at it like this, it’s a free forum, we are fortunate to have such. If someone is a strong suspect for being a scammer I’ll report them to the moderators. Otherwise take it with a grain of salt.

While were on the subject what gets me is the PayPal price for f&f or add 3%. Just build it into the damn price because there is no way I am going to trust a stranger on the internet. Just add the 3% to your asking price please. I don't haggle if a deal is not what I am willing to accept I move on.

Rants like this are pointless to me.....

want to fix this???

Post the price followed by FIRM. If you dont post that it looks like you are open to negotiations .

If you arent going to post every ad as firm then you dont really have room to rant in my opinion
