I worked in the yard 2 weeks ago. Bug spray on arms and legs. Wore t shirt and shorts.

The little bastards got under my shirt and got me over 50 times. All over my midsection.

First time they've bothered me.

use clear finger nail polish on the bites to kill them and stop that crazy itch!

the chiggers are long gone when the itching starts so the finger nail polish is useless. The junk they leave behind is what causes the itching.

What does help is not scratching the bite. Another thing that helps is applying extra strength acne medication like Clearasil. The sialic acid helps clear out that junk. Any type of anti-itch cream also helps.

Essential oils can work.
Mint, rosemary, thyme, pennyroyal, citronella, lavender, basil, bay, eucalyptus.

Distilled witch hazel or distilled plantain on the bites works well to. Feels nicer if it's chilled.

Prednisone has worked for me. I've gotten swimmers itch out of the lakes in MN we call those Chiggers as well.

What’s everyone doing to manage chiggers? I’m on day 4 of my hunt and I have already gotten into them pretty bad

Chig-a-way. Best stuff we’ve found. It works good too.it’s a formula that is used by the us military. It works great.

- Shorts, sandals, untreated clothes, high scent soap, exposed skin and/or no bug spray in chigger country is only a matter of when you get destroyed....not if.

Before:
- Shower with Peppermint soap. I use Dr. Bronner's or I use no scent soap. No Irish Spring etc.
- Spray with bug spray of your choice. Full body spray and make sure to get ankles, behind knees and private areas.
- Around flat ground, wear knee high rubber boots and tuck pants in the top.
- Hiking boots and chaps on hunting trips.
- Keep pants and shirts tucked in. Minimize exposed skin and access to things with elastic like socks and underwear.
-Treat clothing with Pemethrin

After bite treatment:
- extremely long hot showers. Run the hot water on the bites.
- Sarna medicated lotion. I buy it at Walmart.
- Chigger Ex is another cream that also helps but Sarna work better on large areas.
- Benedryl if you want to sleep.
- Clorox Bleach. i knew a guy in the Marines that would scrape the bites open and take a bath in a tup with bleach water. Stung like hell but it stopped the itch and bites scabbed over quickly. He preferred it over itching for two weeks. I've never been brave enough.

Thanks everyone for the advice! Sawyers Permethrin sprayed on boots and pants leg worked great. It definitely made a difference. I think I’ll be rethinking floorless tent lol

Permethrin.. You can get in a co-op, southern states, tractor supply, and the like. You'll want to buy a 1 gallon sprayer bottle because it comes in concentrate so you'll need to dilute it per instructions.

If you can't find that, go to the pharmacy and buy a lice treatment kit that comes with a spray bottle for treating your bed sheets. The spray has permethrin in it too

Im that guy thats gets destroyed when no one else does. I talked to my 5 other dove hunters who all sprayed with sawyers and or off. No chiggers. I got 11 bites and 1 tick.
My last turkey hunt with 7 guys. Not one guy got a tick. I got 15 on me. 4 embedded that where removed. Then two mornings i woke up with them on my pillow. If some rare occasion i don't spray its comical to the amount of bites i get.

I probably get bit by 200-300 chiggers a year. Ankles, behind my knees, waste line and my scrow.
I probably remove 40 embedded ticks a year.
100+ just crawling on me. Im highly allergic to ants and bees and done the antiflatic ordeal.
I always wondered why me. Is it my blood type or what?
I also spend 365 days outside weather hunting, work, or hiking but so do other people.

I’m in the same boat you are. I currently have a calf full of chigger bites. A couple fire ant bites, on tick bite and a yellow jacket sting to top it off. I’m also allergic,
Not full on antiphallactic (sp) usually, but damn close from almost any bite. So feel your pain. I had a single fire ant bite that swelled my hand to the point I couldn’t grip as dog lead last week. I saw an allergist recently and he said I was allergic to a “protein” injected more so than venom from insects. He also stated allergy injection therapy would all but cure it. I’m gonna give it a try soon.

It would be nice if you could buy the stuff in like a 3 gallon size and just dip your clothes and let them hang. Same goes for water repellant spray. That way you wouldn't ever miss a spot.

They will bite through Rynoskin. I wear it but still get bites with it on. Sulphur works around the ankles and wear tick guards around your boots. They are the devil!

I had to Google chiggers to see what they look like. I will take that as a good thing!!

I'd probably be dead in 2 days in the bush in the South.

Chiggers are the least of your worries down here...fire ants! F those little bastards...u will get 20-30 on you not notice then they all bite at one time...

Spray your boots, legs, tuck in ur shirt and spray around ur waste and that will keep 90% of the chiggers off you...I haven't found anything that's stops fire ants, hell I can't find anything to even slow them down.

Supposedly, it lasts for six or seven washing. I use it mostly as tick protection and I would apply it every time I went out. Ticks are the most dangerous animal in the eastern woods and it’s better to be safe than sorry.
