What’s everyone doing to manage chiggers? I’m on day 4 of my hunt and I have already gotten into them pretty bad

My ankles are swollen as I type. I can’t stop them and I use sawyer

Being in SC they are everywhere. There’s not a lot to do beside using sawyer, and No natz. That helps. Idk how well it works or if it’s a myth, but putting dryer sheets in your socks/pockets.

Permethrin on boots and pants plus Picardin lotion on skin around ankles and hips. If the terrain allows for it, rubber or muck boots with pants tucked in makes a big difference.

Biggest tip I have is that non-drowsy antihistamines like Zyrtec work on bug bites. Do what you can to avoid getting lit up and take a Zyrtec when you inevitably still get bit.

Repel 40% deet is what stops them here if I remember and spray down well, I spray the dog as well when we hike. The best after the fact I have found is gold bond extra strength body powder...the menthol in it helps alot. Chiggers are a part of life here in Kansas where I am...you can get them anywhere.....the woods is obviously a place to get them but you can get them in town also. They suck.

Like everyone else has said permethrin is your friend treat your clothes and socks, I don’t have much trouble with chiggers here in Ky in the first place but ticks are a whole different issue here everything gets a permethrin spray until it frosts I personally think tick bites itch worse and longer than chiggers, I’ve also heard of putting clear nail polish over chiggers to stop the itch but never tried it.

What’s the theory with the apple cider vinegar?
A forester told me about it many years ago. Doesn't work for everybody, as we all have different chemistry, but it works for alot of people.....ticks and chiggers generally will not attach to/bite me if I have it in my system. I guess something comes through my skin that turns them off.......dunno the exact science of it, just know it works

Borrow some of your lady friend’s pantyhose. I also used to wear two pairs of boot bands (what Marines use on the bottom of their trousers). This also works for seed ticks. Permethrin works decently, but 40% deet works a little better imo. Also, you can try lavender oil or lemon oil. I’ve been able to mitigate some bites with the above practices, but it’s never been 100% effective.

My son used to get them bad as well as seed ticks, I started duct taping his pants around his boots and his waste line after his shirt was tucked in.

We have them here. Anytime I’m in a pasture or have to walk through tall grass, I spray with repel and don’t get them. I’ve had them so bad over my whole body it looked like chicken pox. I’ve also taken plenty of bleach baths and they seem to work too.
My buddy runs cows and is in the pastures a lot. He takes sulphur and throws it on his pant legs and boots. Said an old timer showed him that a long time ago.

I have no idea how to stop them but I always carry a Benadryl pen with me, a couple touches to the spot with the pen throughout the day and it keeps them from itching, works the same for mosquitoes.

I use to do the nail polish thing but this Benadryl pen is by far better

Repel and deep woods off work for me. Spray on boots, tops of boots, socks, and pant legs. Add waist band if in real tall grass. Rubber boots work great for repelling ticks and chiggers when it's not too hot.

It’s definitely worth trying

I guess that’s kinda like my uncle saying he thinks he took so many sulfur pills as a kid that mosquitos won’t touch him. All while I get eaten alive
