Zero Turn Mowers

Are u mowing a lawn that’s as smooth as glass? What good is a cup holder. Beer would be so shook up in about 20 seconds. Granted it doesn’t take long to drink a beer but a cup holder on a mower for beer would be worthless to me. I’d rather have one of those beer hats 😎.

I see you bought your mower so my 2 cents are a little late. I had a cheap craftsman "lawn tractor" style when I bought my current house about 13 years ago. Instantly knew I needed to upgrade. I checked with some friends who are more mechanically minded than I am. Got good reviews on the Hustler and we had a local dealer with a decent sale going on. 13 years later and I'm still riding that same Hustler. Mows fast, mows smooth, holds up to abuse. It shows no signs of slowing down but, when it does, I'll replace it with another Hustler.

Update on the mower. In the past I've only mowed maybe an acre out of four but this mower is so fast and fun I've been mowing the whole 4 acres. I did add a trac suspension for the seat which is a great upgrade. I won't mow the whole 4 acres all summer but it's nice to knock down the grass. So far at 7 hours I have no complaints. Time will tell but this thing is built pretty dang solid.

Tell me you've never been on a zero turn without telling me you've never been on a zero turn

cup holder on the turns, sip on the straights

I'm in the same boat, building a house and needing to mow 2-3 acres. We have to mow dang near every week in the summer. I'll probably end up getting whatever deal I can find on the marketplace until I see how the total cost of the house shakes out.

Didn't know they had aftermarket seat suspension, so I learned something today...
I'm dead serious about how great Husqvarna automowers are. You'll be around the same price or cheaper than a riding mower, and it'll keep the grass cut with virtually zero effort on your part.

I enjoy my time mowing to much to hire it out or have a robot do it. Throw on the Bluetooth ear muffs, make a drink and enjoy some peace for an hour or so. It could be that I'm 47 and yard work is an enjoyable hobby.

Man I’m the opposite. Would rather have a colonoscopy then cut grass haha. Too me it’s the biggest waste of time and money. Much rather be in the pool with the kids, working out, shooting the stick bows.

Vehicle maintaince I would say is something I enjoy and doesn’t seem like a chore. I hate cutting grass and neglect a ton of my pastures just because I hate brush hogging them or mowing them lol. In my late 30s with a bunch of kids so maybe that will change later in life….

I love mowing my lawn. It’s far smaller than yours but I mow about once a week and it takes about an hour.

My wife doesn’t understand why I like it so much. It’s because it’s about the only thing in my life where I only have to care about making the lines straight. It literally takes no more effort than that.

It's what makes the world go round. I'm planning to eventually build a putting green. I don't even golf but I think it would be a fun challenge and the kids would enjoy it. Still gotta build a fort for the kids this year before they get to old.

Told you not to worry about a cup holder...beer is better in the shade anyways.

That makes two of us!

Actual greens are tough to do and a ton of maintenance but if you did low cut sports turf with a reel mower it would look awesome and more forgiving.

Late to the conversation but I bought a Badboy mz54 6yrs ago and have not had any issues with it. My wife thought it was fun to drive for the first two years. Now I cut the grass(again). I think you will be happy with your purchase.

Lots of advice --- 5 pages ---- short version Scag You want why, read the rest:

I cut about 8.0 acres --- 11 acres (1.5 acre pond, smaller pond, house, driveway--about 8 acres). I have bermuda, field grass, and bahia grass. Several years ago, I had ExMark and Scag bring out 2 mowers each. The Exmark guy stayed with his mowers to sell me, the Scag guy said, I'll be back in a bit, I've got a tractor to look at for another customer." He said, before he left, "I already know which one you're going to buy." The Exmark couldn't handle the bahia at all and was rough riding, the two scags did both the smaller 42" and the larger 60". I taught my wife the basics, so she wouldn't ride off into one of the ponds, and said, you pick.

She chose the larger Scag Tiger Cat II, because of the comfort of the ride, the horsepower, and the fact it could handle the bahia at full throttle. Yeah, it was more than we wanted to spend, but that thing sure is nice. I've had it since 2017-18, no major problems --- fluid changes, filters, and a pto switch --- I'm in Alabama, I cut at least every two weeks, sometimes every week, from end of February-November. It takes me about 3-3.5 hours to cut.

You want a good weedeater/do all --- The Stihl Khombi ---- I did buy two attachments from stihl; they had a choice of two attachments; my pick --- I have bought cheaper attachments of Am$%^&, that thing has been fantastic --- It takes me about 4 hours to weedeat my driveway, parking area, fence rows, ponds, trees, etc. Yeah, longer to weedeat than to cut grass, we have added a lot of flower beds too, plus a huge retaining wall for the pool overlooking the pond.

In the market for a zero turn. I have 4 acres but mow about 1 - 1 1/2 of that maybe eventually 2. I've watched countless reviews and I think I'll probably get the Bad Boy ZT Elite 54 or 60 in.
What is everyone using and your pros and cons?
I've looked at scag, toro, gravely and others.
I bought a bad boy Maverick HD, kawasaki engine, same hydro setup as the major brands. Little over 100 hours on it , no complaints. Wanted a scag, but 4 years ago they were order only no dealer stock during covid... ill probably run it 20plus years like the John Deeere it replaced. I looked at all the brands, didn't see any major difference that would lead me to pay JD or Exmark prices.
